Comptac paddle holster - inside the pants or just around the belt?

Recommended Posts

Just received my new comptac international holster for my X-Tac with the paddle configuration. I have an older comptac version that I've used for my glock for years and always put the holster between my belt and pants. When I ordered the new one the tech told me I should have it between my skin and pants. Tried it and it seems more secure but I don't know if I like it. Pros are it seems more secure. Cons are it's much harder to manipulate, harder to put on and off and I can see it wearing out my pants earlier.

How do you use yours?

I never found a paddle holster that was comfortable or was as good as a belt holster for keeping the gun positioned. People would tell me they're great for being able to get your gun on and off. I put my gun on when I leave the house and take it off when my pants come off. How many times does one need to take their gun on and off?

Most or all of my pants have a belt loop at 3 o'clock where I would otherwise put my holsters so short of cutting off the loop it would have to go between the pants and undies (or tucked in undershirt). Inside the pants is simply the way they're meant to operate though.

That said, I use a Blade Tech and those paddles have notches/wings that grab under your belt from both sides, and it's rock solid.. The last Comp Tac I had only grabbed from the inside and didn't feel as stable.

If you're shooting IDPA and switching long term comfort isn't one of your majoe criteria.

Pants do have a loop at 3 o'clock and that's good. You take your OWB holster, thread your belt through the back slot, through the pants loop, and thenthe front slot and your holster is really anchored.
