Silphidae 33 Posted March 6, 2014 I am going to come and watch. Sounds like fun. You don't need a lot to participate the first time. You need a holster, magazine holder, 3 magazines , know how to safely handle your pistol and a willingness to listen to direction. Show up early so you can get a personalized safety briefing, introduce yourself and ask questions. They will put you last so you can see what's going on and gain confidence before you shoot. What are you shooting?
bignic83 0 Posted March 6, 2014 I think I may participate for the first time also. Bringing a Glock 23. I have joined IDPA, but have not received an ID card yet. Does that matter?
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted March 6, 2014 No. IDPA membership is not required (under IDPA rules) for your first match. Dependent on the club, it may be required for subsequent matches. Even though you don't have a number yet, when you fill out the entry, just put "pending" in the field where they want your number. Be safe and have fun. Adios, Pizza Bob

MedicYeti 96 Posted March 6, 2014 The guys that run it at SJSC do a great job and will take extra time with new shooters. Bring your gun, mags, 100 rounds of ammo (will be more then enough) holster and mag pouches. You don't need fancy gear, just safe gear and an open mind. Ask questions. Have fun. Be safe. Nucrunner 75 Posted March 7, 2014 Can anyone comment on how the IDPA match affects the regular course of business at SJSC? My son picked up a new gun, we have a few limited hours to run some rounds through it early Saturday afternoon, should we expect the pistol range to be out of service or do they run the IDPA down on the action range? Thanks
Silphidae 33 Posted March 7, 2014 It's on the back action range.
MedicYeti 96 Posted March 7, 2014 The IDPA shooting is on the action range - for those of you unfamiliar with the layout: go in the gates and around to the left, follow the road all the way back. The action range is near the end of the 300 yard range. IDPA will not interfere with regular shooting. This week will be 6 stages - 1 of which has a bunch of steel. It will also be a nice day according to the weatherman.

bignic83 0 Posted March 8, 2014 All I can say is WOW! I am hooked, what a great time. Met some NJGF members, The guys from SJIDPA were awesome. Learned a lot of things. What a difference to shoot from a draw as opposed to standing at a table. Special thanks to Bill Morgan and Cory who lent me some equipment as mine was not quite good enough (Fobus Holster). 30 people showed up and the stages were fun. Looking forward to Quinton.
