Blake 50 Posted December 4, 2014 For a first revolver, that's like stepping up to the plate at Yankee Stadium for your first ML at-bat and hitting a solid triple... Lol thanks. I got really lucky...
Blake 50 Posted December 4, 2014 In with Mark Anthony on this. Guns are for shooting. Especially the really good ones. Just like you wouldn't buy a $3,000 custom 1911 and not shoot it. The whole point of a great gun is in putting rounds down range with it. That said, if you're looking for a nice revolver to put through the paces, get a GP. Here's one of mine (the one on the bottom) That GP looks really nice with those grips. I will have to find another one to fondle.
Rob0115 1,105 Posted December 4, 2014 If it were mine I'd shoot like it was meant to be when it was built. I would take great care of it of course so that it would always look good. It isn't going to last forever and unlike the Audi CPO commercial why do you care about the second owner? Get a good 686 and shoot that more but shoot that python. 302w 83 Posted December 5, 2014 Not to hate on Rugers, but those cast frames look so big and clunky compared to a forged frame. Also, "royal blue" isn't made with unicorn blood or anything. It is simply polishing the steel and bluing. Royal blue is extremely labor intensive and therefore not as economically viable as it used to be.
illy 1 Posted December 5, 2014 What grips do you have on the GP? Some dude from Thailand that sells on eBay. His name is Jaruwan.

Worn_Holster 2 Posted December 8, 2014 I have a special place in my heart for my S&W's; Their triggers are better than any of my Rugers, but they cost a whole lot more. The Rugers can take more of a beating than I'd like to hand out to either of my S&Ws. Here is my 1958 Pre-29 4 screw and my Model 1917 US Govt issue war revolver. Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted December 8, 2014 Here are my 1958 Pre-29 4 screw Just curious - a gun manufactured in 1958 would have a model number. On the .44 Magnum the change to a model number designation was authorized in 1957, but the first Model 29 marked gun was produced in 1958 at appx serial number S179000. Perhaps yours is older than you think. If you post the first four characters of your serial number I may be able to confirm year of manufacture. Very nice piece. bennj 215 Posted December 9, 2014 Blake. I'm surprised to hear it's your first revolver, but that is a very nice looking piece. From what I have seen, it looks like you got it at a fantastic price too. If I were independently wealthy, I'd pick up a 586/686 for regular use and take the Colt out every couple of years to shoot a few rounds. I really like my GP100, but what do I know. Congratulations on a fine acquisition.

That's a beautiful piece worn holster. Looks like its in great shape especially considering its age.

Congratulations on a fine acquisition. Thanks bennj, I just never got around to buying a revolver bc permits were always used up on other stuff. This guy popped up literally 2 days after I applied for some permits and I didn't have anything else set aside yet. I am currently on the hunt for a 586, thats what the next permit will be burned on It felt just as good in hand as the Python and I felt that it shot very similar. Not as pretty, but since they are 1/4 the price I don't have to worry about beating on it a little.
Worn_Holster 2 Posted December 9, 2014 Thanks guys, I know when it shipped...It does have some holster wear on both sides of the muzzle which doesn't show in the photo.

Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted December 9, 2014 Right from the horses mouth. Doesn't get any better than Jinks. Yours must be right at the tail end of the pre-29's. It is a beautiful piece. Adios, Pizza Bob
