tommyfeds 2 Posted January 5, 2015 Hey Guys and Gals, Happy New Year! So I have had this knife for many years now, it belonged to my grandfather and thats about all I know. It's been tossed in boxes and in draws along the years, never used just saved because of where it came from. Im curious to know, other than its "familial" value, is it worth anything to a collector? All the markings are in the pic, I dont think I missed anything. Thanks all, Tommy
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 5, 2015 I would say it's a WWII era US Navy KA-BAR...
tommyfeds 2 Posted January 5, 2015 I have done some googling on the markings and believe the same, however, I keep coming up with a different looking knife. The knives Ive seen all seem to be bit bigger with a different pattern on the handle. Not that Im saying that I have something rare, as Im sure these are a dime a dozen, especially in this condition. Just curious if anyone knows "off the top of their head" as they say.
djg0770 481 Posted January 5, 2015 It could have been shortened along the way.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted January 5, 2015 It does look very well worn... could be shortened or ground down...
Tack Tickle 0 Posted January 5, 2015 I do beleive you have a WW2 Ka-Bar Mark I. The blade was definitely reshaped a bit. Looks like the tip might have been broken off prying something and the blade was swept upward a bit more.
tommyfeds 2 Posted January 5, 2015 ahhhh........a mark I. I kept finding mark II's, no wonder i couldnt find it. Ill search some more. So if I tape it to the front of my savage mark II would that make it a Mark III? (terrible, sorry)
Tack Tickle 0 Posted January 5, 2015 The Mark 2 is when they made the indentations in the leather grip area. They do all look very similar though.
