Your Thoughts: H&K VP9 vs Walther PPQ

Recommended Posts

I am definitely undecided on that. Certainly I have old eyes, and certainly the most important time to use it at night, I likely won't be stopping to charge it, so not sure it really matters. Someone recommended having a laser mounted as a deterrent in self defense, any thoughts?

Joy I recommend the LE model. Bhunted is correct that the LE gives you a better "bang for the buck" in getting night sights and extra magazine. It's an extra $100 for ~$225 worth of upgrades.

Shot my PPQ for the first time in several months yesterday. Consciously maintained a firm grip so no double taps. But it turns out I've developed some (bad?) habits that make the PPQ less of a suitable fit. I mostly shoot with a P229, and I've been taught to "stage" the single action trigger by taking out the slack, confirming aim, and then fully pulling the trigger. But with the really short trigger on the PPQ, my muscle memory of taking up the slack on my P229 is enough to pull the PPQ trigger to break. At the risk of stating the obvious and reiterating a basic rule of gun safety, you really have to be careful about having your finger on the PPQ trigger until you're ready to shoot.

Before jumping on the LE model, be sure you are going to be satisfied with the sights. I know that it seems like a great value for another $100, but not if you are going to change out the sights. Many people, myself included, loathe 3 dot night sights. You would be better off just buying a 3rd magazine, and then put the remaining towards a set of sights you will actually use long term.

What type night sights do you prefer? And why?

I like an all black serrated, or non-glare rear with a U notch that is wider than the front post. I find any sort of dot on my rear to be a distraction. So much so that on my Springfield 1911, which came with Novak 3 dot tritiums, I took a Sharpie to the 2 rear dots. I may end up changing the rear someday because I'm not crazy about the sight picture, but this will do for now. As a plus, I like the rear to have some sort of surface to allow one handed charging of the slide.

As for the front sight, I prefer it to be serrated at .125" width max. I used to like having a tritium dot up front, but I am starting to move away from that, and these days, I love having a red fiber optic dot. I also like to have a little bit of height with the front sight versus the height on my OEM sights. For it, it is easier to find when indexing to target, as well as track during recoil.

My favorite sights so far are the 10-8 .140" U-notch rear, paired with their .115" red fiber optic front. I may give the Wilson Combat Vickers set (with red FO front) a shot on my G19, though I am unsure how much I will like the recessed U notch rear. Can't hurt to try it though.

OK, thanks. I was wondering if there was a a better low light setup. While the three dot is not my favorite because it draws your eye to the dot instead of the top of the sight, I do like it for a nightstand gun.

Clean it good and rack the crap out of it till you hit the range. Give ya a head start on breaking it in a bit.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It has a ton of oil on it. The whole slide is wet right out of the box. I really need to wipe it down.

Not just wipe it down. Do a thorough inside and out.. Then lube as per manual. They don't need a lot of oil. In fact, before reassembly, put a light coat of gun grease on metal contact points, trigger arm, etc. then rack the hell out of it, work the trigger, then clean again. This really speeds up the break in process. By time I got mine to the range, it was as smooth as silk.

Just wondering if anyone's seen these out in the wild yet or knows what the ETA should look like.  I have a permit I'd like to use before it expires.  Thanks.

I get emails from Davidson's and other distributors.  This week they are having a special on HK P30L in 40 S&W for $469.  Assume + shipping + dealer markup.

Also seems like a deal? on M9A3.

Also, the Walther Creed is $249.  This was actually a really nice gun when I got to play with it at Shot Show.  Surely better than the lower end Smiths, etc.

Trying to decide between the 3... I’m leaning towards the cz p10c, mainly because i love CZs and i hear good things about their striker fired offering. The others are tried and true.

Anyone have any experience with these firearms? Any input would be appreciated.
