Yes and I have a Florida drivers license and CWP. The latter removes the three day waiting period for handgun purchases. There is a really long thread somewhere here where I explained how you can buy guns in any state you reside--even as a multi-state resident. There's always a bunch of nonsense, even most FFLs mess this up, that your DL and FID must match and that's nonsense. You cannot have an FID or DL at an address you don't live but they don't need to match. Form 4473 explains how to allow purchases for multi state residents.

 

I've even applied and received P2P at my local township PD using my FL DL (which only establishes identity not residence, residence is established by my NJ government issued FID) without them taking a second look, looking confused or asking a question. It's people don't know the laws and just follow what's been usual and customary. Most FFLs believe you need a DL for a NICS check, and you don't, it's optional. Further, and validated by sergeant Ross who runs the FIU for the state PD, you don't need to present an FID to be shown a firearm in NJ. I was told it's a business practice but it is not the law.

 

Anyway that's a synopsis of a very long discussion on multi state gun purchasers.

I'll ask but some FFL's are wary of permits that have expired and been renewed.  There was some NICS get together a while back and that was one of the things they didn't want to do.  I might extend and buy something else, this one will be at the FFL by my house Monday and so will I.

Because it has to be shipped to a NJ FFL if he lives in NJ
