EPA to ban vehicle modifications

Everything fun is always on the chopping block. Tired of it!

There always has to be someone who ruins it for the rest. It's pretty typical. We used to do a lot of offroading and hunting in certain areas that have access completely blocked off now because people litteraly couldn't help themselves taking advantage of "a good time".

People don't understand the concpet of flying under the radar. More often they just don't care...

Plenty of car meets I used to go to are completely shut down now because idiots felt doing burn outs in parking lots and speeding out would be a great way to show the community how we operate. It was usually some dipshit in a shitbox too, no one with a respectable car or just respectable in general.

You didn't know that this year any vehicle older than 1995 won't have to to through inspection(Non Comercial)? Also all state inspection stations are closing down? Only gas station inspection will be left.

Didn't know that, thanks for the link bud.

This is the Paris Agreement on climate change that was just signed. Signing countries all agreed to reduce co2 and didnt agree on how to do it. They will all try to do it any way they can. Reductions will never get through congress but the EPA has rulemaking authority so anything that makes CO2 that they can clamp down on they will so they can hit their reduction targets. They don't care if you enjoy racing or wrenching. You will stop in the name of compliance with CO2 reduction levels agreed to. Elect a republican to the white house to roll this nonsense back. It is that simple.

Update on EPA Proposal to Prohibit Race Car Conversions

■Engine News

by Engine Builder Staff - Feb 19, 2016

Last week SEMA informed its members and the racing public of an important proposed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation aiming to make it illegal to convert street vehicles into cars used exclusively at the track. The proposed regulations have been met with overwhelming opposition. Some of the important developments over the past week include:

A SEMA-initiated White House petition opposing the EPA proposed regulation which has quickly gained more than 149,000 signatures
Opposition among numerous Members of Congress, including opposition statements from Reps. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) and Austin Scott (R-GA) to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy during a U.S. House of Representatives hearing.
Reporting by significant independent media outlets advancing the discussion and creating broad public awareness about the proposed regulation.

“SEMA is pleased with the enormous response we’ve seen in opposition to this proposed regulation” said SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting. Noting that some of the media coverage has characterized SEMA’s opposition as an overreaction, Kersting added, “Despite EPA’s statements that the agency does not intend to enforce the law against race car owners, the agency is, in fact, writing new law into the regulations. As a result, if this proposal is finalized, the racing community and parts makers would forevermore be operating outside of that law and could be targeted for enforcement at a future date. We don’t consider it an overreaction to try to prevent this new interpretation from becoming law.”

In over 46 years since the Clean Air Act was passed, SEMA is unaware of a single instance of the EPA taking the position that regulations pertaining to street vehicles also apply to vehicles that are removed from the road and converted for race-use only purposes. “Given that this issue is shaping up as a matter of interpretation of the Clean Air Act, a clear statutory exemption in the law may be necessary for vehicles used solely for racing, whether converted from street vehicles or purpose built. Accordingly, SEMA is working closely with its congressional allies who agree that the Clean Air Act does not support EPA’s new interpretation of the statute.”

People create a significant amount of C02 by breathing.

I can think of several ways to reduce this.

Hopefully these congressional allies will use the opportunity to throttle the EPA.

The heating equipment we use here in America, is pretty much illegal in most of Europe. If your boiler dosen't pass emissions testing in Germany they give you a set amount of time to get it tuned into compliance, or the government comes and cuts it out of your house and takes it away. Wait until they start that bullshit here. It will probably make me a small fortune in installs. Only a matter of time... remember that when you vote...
