Henry H001 sight question

I recently purchased a Henry H001. It's my first lever gun. When I took it to the range for the first time it was shooting to the right 12 inches from the point of aim at 25 yards (indoor range). I adjusted the rear sight but in order to get the gun to hit where I am aiming the rear sight is noticeably off to the left side of the barrel. My guess would be about 3/8's of an inch maybe a little more.

 

I spoke with a few people at the range and no one thought this was normal. I also tried several different types of ammo with the same results.

 

I'm wondering should I contact Henry or is this a normal occurrence?

Call Henry, have them look at it. My H001's sights were dead on at 25yds right out of the box. Something is off. From what I've read, their support is great. They'll most likely as you to send it in.

 

ETA - Did you have someone else shoot it to see if they had the same results?

If you're using the factory buckhorn sights, loosen the small screw on top of the dovetail where the buckhorn mounts to the barrel and drift the rear sight in the direction you want to move the shot.

Then tighten it back up.

 

I like the HiViz front sight replacement for my H001

And esp the Williams aperture rear sight that now lives on the grooved receiver.

 

But beware of sight height differences when you start replacing sights.

Having reread the orig post, the front sight is most likely canted.

Loosen the screw on the barrel band and see if you can bring it back to plumb.

 

And still consider the change to aperture rear and fiber optic front

It makes a world of difference on this fun little gun!

Yes I had someone else shoot it prior to adjusting the rear sight with the same result.

I checked the front sight and it is tight and centered correctly. I'm going to contact Henry today.

Follow up. I shipped the rifle back to Henry and after checking it out they shipped me a brand new rifle. They didn't tell me what was wrong with the original but I am satisfied with the outcome. 

 

Took it to the range and it was almost dead on at 25 yards.

Add Henry to the list of quality CS vendors.  Drop Anthony an email he loves hearing how great his CS staff is.  Now get a skinner sight for it and you are all set.  Good luck.
