CMC 10rd Power mags

Recommended Posts

So I'm getting my first 1911 in a few weeks (S&W) and I've been researching mags for it. There seems to be a few really goodmanufacturers Wilson, Tripp, CMC and more. The ones I'm interested are the 10rd CMC mags for range and defensive use. I believe it comes with 2 factory mags I could use if I ever carried it. So what are your guys opinions? Anyone use them? They seem to be at a great price point as well

I use PowerMags, Shooting Star, and Match Mags in my 1911s and Camp 45.  All work as designed, No problems.  Even work well with Bullseye loads, which are some of  the biggest bunnyfart loads one shoots in 45ACP.  Never had any reason to doubt them.

Chips and Wilson are fine. Never tried 10 rounders. They also come in 7 and 8...

You realize the 10 will stick out?

You also didn't mention if you are getting a 9mm, 10mm or 45.....

I am aware it will stick out that's why I mentioned the factory mags for carry. It's a 45

Magazines, even though they may be very high quality from a good manufacturer, can work well in some 1911's and not so good in others. I have seen some guns choke-up with 10-rounders, so I tend to stay away from them in general.

Consistently, I have seen the best results with Wilson ETM 8 rounders. Cobra/Tripp 8's are also very good.

Anecdotal evidence or just opinion?

I've seen more malfunctions with 10 round mags than with 7 or 8 round ones

I wouldn't stake my life on a 10-round 1911, .45 ACP magazine.

Buy the Wilson's 47-T The Bureaucrat IMHO, the BEST 10 round mag for a 1911 45 available.

I ran the CMC's for a few years until they failed me one too many time at a match. Never had a issue with the Wilson's.

What game/division were you shooting a 45 with 10 rounders?

USPSA L-10

I might have a random mag or 2 but the ONLY mags I use in matches or HD are Wilsons. The 47D's and 47T's.

Good to hear about the Wilson's. I'll probably grab 2 10 rounders and a bunch of CMC 8 rounders. Unless there is a cheaper/better 8 rounder?

Cmc are good 8 rounders. Throw a base pad on them and you're gtg.

As noted before, it does depend on the gun. I use Chip McCormick 10 round power mags a lot in competition (in a Kimber) and they have literally been 100.0 percent reliable. I'm approaching 100.00 percent. Not one problem, ever. The combination is freakishly reliable

the wilson 47-d are again IMHO the best 8 round mags to buy better than the CMC. Order the 47-DE and the basepad is slightly longer.

When I 1st started shooting the mags I got for my 1911 were all CMC 8 & 10 round mags. Once I got involved in competitive shooting, I found out I had some issues with the CMC's. I ended up replacing all the mags I had with Wilsons. Plus they have a LIFETIME warranty if you were to need it.

I have seen multiple bureaucrat mags have the welded on nubbin come off after repeated use.

Imo the Tripp and CMC mags where the floor plate prevents over insertion are a more reliable design.

Cmc need regular maintenance of the feed lips every few thousand rounds or when stepped on. They may also need the base plate to be trimmed up to match the gun. Tripp seem to be tougher and to tighter tolerances.
