Magazine Floorplates Question

Recommended Posts

Does NJ require permanently attached floorplates on all magazines?  I'm looking at some reduced capacity mags and they come with the option of perm attached or not.  It would be nice to be able to give my mags a proper cleaning every now and again.

Only over 15.

Mags need only be "permanently altered" to 15 rounds. The bases can come off.

I think they may have changed that rule.  RTSP used to neuter 17 round Glock magazines by placing a rivet in the side of the magazine that "permanently" blocked the follower from allowing more than 15 rounds to load, the base plate could be removed.  During the last go around where the state wanted to drop to ten rounds they went to the state police to get permission to neuter people's existing 15 round magazines to 10, not just for ones they got shipped in new from out of state.  They told me that the state police told them they were no longer considering the rivet to be "permanent" but they would not go after them or customers for existing mags that were altered that way.  They told them that for all future work they had to insert a block and then epoxy the base pads.

Wait, I'm confused.  IF I had 20 rounders I can use them as long as the bottom plate is removable?  Any Caliber?

Can’t be made to hold more than 15... of the caliber intended for or stamped for.

 don’t do the .40 to 9 thing please

You better glue all your mags then, because I bet I can alter most of them to hold over 15 rounds.

You probably could, but in NJ that is a criminal act.  The issue I was talking about is the state police wants the basepad epoxied on magazines that started at a higher than legal capacity and then were neutered to the state limit.
