Maksim 1,504 Posted May 24, 2009 Great news! I know we have been talking about doing a group buy on a reloading press. The first one we can do, through a local vendor here is a group discount on Dillon presses. Because of Dillon pricing policies, we cannot reveal the discount online, but it is a pretty good one, esp on a product like this. First step is to go to Dillon's website http://www.bluepress.com or http://www.dillonprecision.com/. Pick what you like. Then, call Vinny, of Hunting World Guns & Ammo - Freehold, NJ, you can call him direct at 917-709-8729. Tell him you are a member at NJ Gun Forums, and he will fill you in on the details of the discount. Thank you Vinny.

remthewanderer 0 Posted May 27, 2009 I would love to learn about reloading but I have no idea where to begin. Does anyone want to point me in the right direction? Dillon's website is complicated. There are dozens of add ons
tbtrout 141 Posted May 27, 2009 I would love to learn about reloading but I have no idea where to begin. Does anyone want to point me in the right direction? Dillon's website is complicated. There are dozens of add ons First thing you need to do is pick up a good reloading manual such as Lyman #49 or Speer #14 and do some reading. The ABC's of reloading is another good one. It will lay everything out for you step by step. It will give you a good base to ask more questions off of. Reloading is very simple.
Maksim 1,504 Posted May 27, 2009 in this forum, i put up a link to a youtube video series about reloading. take a lookt there. quite a few topics have already been discussed.
remthewanderer 0 Posted May 27, 2009 Thanks for the ideas on reloading books. I will pick one of those up as a starting point. Even though I use the net for everything I still find that a good book is a better starting place.
tbtrout 141 Posted May 28, 2009 the net is good, but there is no substitute for ink and paper.

remthewanderer 0 Posted June 5, 2009 So i took a look at the great Dillon videos on youtube and I want to get a 550! I will call about the discount as soon as I get a chance. Reloading manuals are on the way. I might try to buy powder and small pistol primers at the Oaks PA gun show this weekend. I would need small pistol primers for 9mm right?
tbtrout 141 Posted June 6, 2009 Yes small for a 9mm. What powder are you planning on using?
remthewanderer 0 Posted June 6, 2009 The gun show was great! I got a thousand federal small pistol primers for 34 dollars. That seems pretty in line with midway's prices. I also bought 5 lbs of blue dot powder. That was 75 and should last me a good long while. Surprisingly the thing that was hard to find was 9mm fmj bullets. njpilot 671 Posted June 7, 2009 Were there lots of primers, or were you lucky to get those?
Maksim 1,504 Posted June 7, 2009 what show was this? Are they there tomorrow? Brother wants to go.
tbtrout 141 Posted June 7, 2009 5 pounds of powder, you need another 4000 primers for all of the Blue Dot. Do you have to shoot FMJ or will you use lead?
remthewanderer 0 Posted June 7, 2009 The show is on tomorrow at the philadelphia convention center at OAKS. just a bit west of valley forge. From the one guy I bought from he had a 1000 primer per person limit. He was not the only one with small primers in stock. I did not even think about the FMJ vs Lead bullets. I will have to give that some thought.
Maksim 1,504 Posted June 7, 2009 buy the dillon yet?
remthewanderer 0 Posted June 11, 2009 I have not made a purchase yet. I think I may go with the Lee Loadmaster instead. The Dillion is too expensive for me right now.
rscalzo 3 Posted June 11, 2009 Lead bullets Lead works fine but don't push them too hard. They are also much dirtier. No way around that as the lube burns causing the residue but it is easily cleaned off.
