  1. I see it posted all the time that you can't hang weight on a Benelli. I have an M1S90 tactical with a six round side saddle shell holder that will shoot any load without fail.
  2. Thanks for the clarification. I thought the list was just for long guns.
  3. The Bushmaster Carbon 15 Type 97 Pistol is an alternative that weighs 46oz. A pistol with a detachable magazine not in the grip that weighs more than 50 oz. is specifically banned. "ii. A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following: (1) An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip; (2) A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer; (3) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned; (4) Manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and/or (5) A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm; and "
  4. The issue I have with the most recent service grade that I got from the CMP (in mail prior to NJ change) is that it came with a brand new stock (Boyds?) that is way oversized. It also was dipped in a brown stain that raised the woodgrain. The stock feels like a baseball bat. Needless to say, it was very disappointing. I would only buy from the CMP directly and never order one again. The chance of me driving to either one is nil at this point in my life and that is why I say go with Garand Guy. In addition, he is a local small NJ gun dealer.
  5. I have to agree with the M1A. I have an M1A Standard Loaded and love it. It is very accurate way past your desired range. Fifteen round magazines are available cheap from Brownells. There is a lot of DAG German surplus 7.62 NATO ammo available.
  6. +1 on selling the mags. I would not ruin them by bending the feed lips.
  7. I believe that the original post specified a Special Grade CMP Garand ($995) or a Garand Guy Super Premium ($1000 after rebate). That is a $5 difference. You would spend way more than that driving 14 hours.
  8. Since you are speaking about comparably priced rifles I would have to say go with Garand Guy because you can handle the gun prior to purchase. I have both CMP Garands and a Garand bought 25 years ago from a dealer and I have to say that I like handling guns prior to purchase.
  9. Probably for a 1903 Springfield.
  10. I do not believe the law states that a firearm has to be locked when not in a trunk. It is an OR statement. I have pasted the NJ law here and the relevant section is in the exemptions (the last paragraph I pasted in bold. 2C:39-6 Exemptions. 2C:39-6. a. Provided a person complies with the requirements of subsection j. of this section, N.J.S.2C:39-5 does not apply to: e.Nothing in subsections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 shall be construed to prevent a person keeping or carrying about his place of business, residence, premises or other land owned or possessed by him, any firearm, or from carrying the same, in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section, from any place of purchase to his residence or place of business, between his dwelling and his place of business, between one place of business or residence and another when moving, or between his dwelling or place of business and place where such firearms are repaired, for the purpose of repair. For the purposes of this section, a place of business shall be deemed to be a fixed location. f.Nothing in subsections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 shall be construed to prevent: (1)A member of any rifle or pistol club organized in accordance with the rules prescribed by the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice, in going to or from a place of target practice, carrying such firearms as are necessary for said target practice, provided that the club has filed a copy of its charter with the superintendent and annually submits a list of its members to the superintendent and provided further that the firearms are carried in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section; (2)A person carrying a firearm or knife in the woods or fields or upon the waters of this State for the purpose of hunting, target practice or fishing, provided that the firearm or knife is legal and appropriate for hunting or fishing purposes in this State and he has in his possession a valid hunting license, or, with respect to fresh water fishing, a valid fishing license; (3)A person transporting any firearm or knife while traveling: (a)Directly to or from any place for the purpose of hunting or fishing, provided the person has in his possession a valid hunting or fishing license; or (b)Directly to or from any target range, or other authorized place for the purpose of practice, match, target, trap or skeet shooting exhibitions, provided in all cases that during the course of the travel all firearms are carried in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section and the person has complied with all the provisions and requirements of Title 23 of the Revised Statutes and any amendments thereto and all rules and regulations promulgated thereunder; or ©In the case of a firearm, directly to or from any exhibition or display of firearms which is sponsored by any law enforcement agency, any rifle or pistol club, or any firearms collectors club, for the purpose of displaying the firearms to the public or to the members of the organization or club, provided, however, that not less than 30 days prior to the exhibition or display, notice of the exhibition or display shall be given to the Superintendent of the State Police by the sponsoring organization or club, and the sponsor has complied with such reasonable safety regulations as the superintendent may promulgate. Any firearms transported pursuant to this section shall be transported in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section; (4)A person from keeping or carrying about a private or commercial aircraft or any boat, or from transporting to or from such vessel for the purpose of installation or repair a visual distress signaling device approved by the United States Coast Guard. g. All weapons being transported under paragraph (2) of subsection b., subsection e., or paragraph (1) or (3) of subsection f. of this section shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported, and in the course of travel shall include only such deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances.
  11. I don't think the ATF has had a dog in the fight concerning collapsible or telescoping stocks since the AWB sunset.
  12. I rock my old ALICE 782 gear
  13. Complete crap. It is a permit to purchase only.
  14. I have built two AR's using Del-ton lowers and LPK. The fit and finish on both were very good. I was really impressed with the trigger in both.
  15. I load all bolt guns that have an internal magazine like the Mosin from the top with the bolt open, never through the bottom of the magazine. This is regardless of whether I am using stripper clips or not. With practice you can load one round at a time very quickly. Topping of the magazine is also done from the top.

    Ghetto Blaster!

I have a G17 model that I cut to fit the G19 mags. The gun has been surprisingly reliable and fun to shoot. It is also very accurate compared to a pistol.
  17. CCI No. 34 primers are Military Large Rifle Primers. They are supposed to be hardened. Several online vendors sell them. Wideners has them in stock.
  18. I have had good luck with a .470" crimp at the case mouth with 200g lswc.
  19. I bought a bunch for my Glock 19 and 22 and have not had a single issue with any of them. The plastic is harder and cheaper looking than the Glock mags, but they have all worked very well for me. Keep in mind that I use them as range magazines.
  20. I have flown a lot with both long guns and hand guns. Nobody has ever asked for a pistol permit or FPID. It is not needed as long as it is legal for you to possess at your departure and destination. The pistol does have to be in a hard sided case (preferably placed in your suitcase) with non-TSA locks. You have to be the sole possessor of the keys/combination. TSA never touches any guns. You get a form at the airline check-in counter that states that the gun is unloaded that you have to sign. You then go to a TSA person that witnesses you place the signed form in your locking case and then you hand your bag containing the gun to the TSA for baggage screening. Your ammo can be in a separate container in the same luggage.
  21. I have to disagree with you on the mags. AK mag quality varies quite a bit. All of the problems I have ever encountered with AK type rifles has been due to mags. The body is strong, but the follower is very primitive and I have had them nosedive/stick in the mag body.
