  1. Jesus, I just looked at the price of SCAR 17's. What the hell caused the price to skyrocket so much?

  4. Miss you too bud. Only a couple more months. I can't wait, I've got several guns back home in a safe that have been neglected. Not gonna be staying in NJ though.
  5. Sorry. Here on Guam Starbucks is $10, BR is $18. That being said, I wasn't trying to talk bad about BR. I'd buy BR at almost twice the price any day of the week. Company stance aside, BR is better coffee.
  6. I've tried their coffee. It's pretty good, if you're okay with spending $18 a bag.
  7. Because not everybody has the time, motivation, or capability to do the research and build their own gun. If you buy a complete rifle from Daniel Defense, you get not only a damn good rifle, but the peace of mind that a reputable company will resolve any issues you (will most likely not) have. Also, not everyone has the desire to pick EVERY component on their rifle. For these people, buying a complete rifle is the right answer...and if they want a top notch rifle, Daniel Defense is a viable company. Now, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate. I have two AR's. Both of them I bought a complete upper and built the lower. Not as intensive as building the whole thing, but still. I have two stripped lowers sitting in my safe, waiting to be built when I get back to the states. But if something went wrong, I'd feel pretty confident working on either gun myself. I'm mechanically inclined though, I turn wrenches and take shit apart and put it back together for a living. Not everyone does, so building a rifle is not for everyone.
  8. My supervisor has a Benchmade Infidel that I've fondled a couple times. It's a nice knife, craftsmanship is nice. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the handle just seems bulky compared to the blade. My buddy has a different Benchmade auto, not a double edge. That was nice as well. I've never seen either put through hard use, so I can't attest to that.
  9. Nick, have you considered getting a pinky extension for the 7rd mag? It really makes a world of difference being able to get that last finger on the grip, and doesn't really add anything in size.
  10. The SR9 was my first pistol. Still have it. Bought it from @Ray Ray back in the day.
  11. I have an FNS-9. Great gun. My only gripe is that I just can't seem to shoot it as well as I'd like. Guns out here are just too expensive though, and I'm going to wait until getting back to the states to figure out a different full size (polymer that is, I'll always have my 1911)
  12. I carry a 9mm Shield with a TLR-6 a 4 o'clock whenever I'm not on base on Guam. It's constant shorts and t-shirt weather, and I don't have a single issue hiding it. I was also very surprised at how tame it is to shoot. Get a pinky extension for the 7rd mag. It makes a big difference, and it's like $8 off Amazon.
  13. I think that you're having a shop do things that you can easily do for a fraction of the price. If you know how to safely put a car up on jack stands, then I promise you can replace differential fluid. The worst part about replacing differential fluid is the smell. Transmission fluid isn't fun if there's no drain plug, but still not hard. Fluid replacement is some of the easiest maintenance you can do yourself and save some coin. It's also not a bad idea to replace fluids on a somewhat regular basis. 130k for coolant might be pushing it. Also, if it's got 230k on the clock, and the fluid in the differentials is from the factory, that's probably well past the point where you should change it. If you keep the car, I would recommend doing most of these things yourself and save a lot of money.
  14. Although I agree that discretion is some of the best security you can buy, not many people here are advertising where they live. If you want to fly out to Guam to steal my Go bag, go for it. I've already had two vehicle break-ins, and one attempted house break-in out here. I'm ready for someone to try and steal my shit. Also, sharing what you think is important enough to pack is good for others to see, as they may have overlooked certain areas.
  15. I've looked at the Liftstraws as well, because I wanted something smaller as the need for one is pretty minimal given my location. That being said, I chose the Sawyer Mini because it seemed like it would be easier to send water to one of my Nalgene bottles or the water bladder. It also comes with a straw attachment, so that you can drink directly from the source, although it does take up a little bit more room. I may take a look at adding some light fishing gear once I get off this God-forsaken island, depending on where I move to. But again, with the base so close, and the amount of time I spend out at sea, the chances of me needing to use this pack are even less than those in the states.
  16. If anything were to happen, those would be distributed by my command. We run reactor accident drills at least once a year. Same thing. That's a good idea. Will do man, I have a little less than a year left.
  17. Since I'm stationed in Guam right now, I thought it may be wise to put together a "Go" bag. It's constantly evolving, but I do believe I have a working one. We don't have the riots that CONUS states currently have, but there is a little bit of unrest from the locals regarding the military. They're upset because if it weren't for us being here, North Korea wouldn't want to target the island. They also seem to forget that if we weren't here, some other less forgiving nation would likely have placed themselves here. That's a different discussion for a different time though. The island is also host to frequent tropical storms, and power outages. I made a bag that was not specifically for any one thing, but an overall situation where something happens that normal day-to-day services or living amenities are no longer available. This is more of a 72 hour bag than a BOB, as the Navy base is ~3 miles away. I'm using a 5.11 COVRT 18 backpack, as it is small enough to not be a hassle to carry, but would still be comfortable enough to haul over several miles, all while remaining relatively inconspicuous. Inside: 4 liters of water Sawyer mini water filter 12 Clif bars First aid kit, tourniquet, Quikclot, splints 8'x6' tarp 100' paracord, various clips Hygiene (travel size): toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, hand sanitizer Surefire 6PX, extra batteries Multitool Fixed blade Gerber Strongarm 10" Kershaw camp knife Knife sharpener Chemlights Fire starters, lighter 2 disposable ponchos Emergency blanket Mechanix gloves Pen, sharpie, notepad Extra pair of underwear and socks 100rds of 9mm 200rds of .22lr I have been trying to find a balance of things that might be needed in any situation, but keep the bag as light as possible to remain relatively mobile. While I think that the discussion regarding whether a bag like this is necessary or not is interesting, I think it should be held in another place. I put this bag together with little investment, as I already possessed most of the items in the bag. I recognize that it's much better to hunker down at home, and my home is quite a bit more secure than most given that I have metal storm shutters and an entirely concrete exterior. However I wanted it all in one location that I could grab and go if the situation dictated. Hoping to revive an interesting topic.
  18. Just curious, do you guys have enough of a need for this to justify not having a fold down flat area in the back of your SUV? I carry stuff way too often to get rid of that capability. It seems like this really doesn't have much of a purpose unless you're carrying firearms in your vehicle, and leaving them in there unattended quite often.
  19. I have the AlienGear belt, and like it quite a bit. Now, the only thing I have to compare it to is a 5.11 belt that was just a tad too small. However I am very happy with my AlienGear belt. Recommendation, for carry, get a belt that is sized for ~4" bigger than your normal pants size. For example, I wear size 34 waist pants, got a size 38 belt.
  20. Does anyone have any info about whether they include a spring or not? It's not listed on their site, so I assume now. Any reports of issues feeding the last couple rounds because of this? ETA. For what it's worth, I got a pinky extension for the 7rd mag, they can be had for under $10 on Amazon and are worth every penny. I also invested in the TLR-6 and an IWB holster to accommodate the light. It's great for peace of mind in case I need to use it in the dark. Neither is a hinderance for CCW in very light clothing.
  21. Consequences? Unless I'm reading this incorrectly, this is a good thing.

    BBQ rigs

Okay so....what is a BBQ rig? Also, I have a Weber Spirit E-330 LP. I'd love to have a Genesis, but the Spirit is more than what I need to grill for my wife and I. Unfortunately, even though I keep it covered, the island of Guam is not easy on anything that stays outside.
  23. I think they only carry solid colors.
  24. I mean...if he had played his cards right, it wouldn't be so bad. I feel like he could have justified firing when they were backing him up. His mistake was continuing to fire after they started driving in reverse. ETA: That was his mistake AFTER confronting them in the first place. Be a smart observer. Take down the license plate number, and even a couple pictures.
