  1. I agree with this. However, just being legal does NOT keep you from being charged with a crime you did not commit. All that requires is for the police to not be as we'll informed as all of us are trying to be as is evident by his tread. I do my best to first know the laws (not easy here) and then as a personal choice I try to limit any actions which may be misunderstood as a crime by the less informed. I don't want to pay the legal price required to 'educate' any LEO. With this in mind it is the AG that makes the decision as to how the LEOs will interpret the law and not the LEOs themselves. This means (as I understand it) that the NJSP Firearms Unit's opinions of legal interpretation DO NOT carry the force of law. Only the AG's do. If you want clarity then I think a signed letter from the AG's office would be required. Good luck getting that, but if anyone does please share with the rest of us. Remember, any LEO can be mistaken, and many are with regard to the firearm laws here. Their mistakes end up being paid for with your funds going to your lawyer.
  2. I have to agree with brocglock23. 2C:39-1w(5) A part or combination of parts designed or intended to convert a firearm into an assault firearm, or any combination of parts from which an assault firearm may be readily assembled if those parts are in the possession or under the control of the same person. One can remain legal by not personally having possession (think in the same location/home/car) of all the parts to complete said firearm. So if you only have the upper you are good to go. If you have any compatable lower then you are not. Also discussed here: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/52916-owning-evil-accessories/
  3. Same as now. Chicago had too many murders, only in the 20s they used a few tommy guns (ref St. Valentie's massacre) so we had to do something right? In truth, the push was to ban handguns then as well, but that was removed and we were left with SBR, SBS, and automatic all requiring a prohibitive tax. Wait, that sounds familiar too, like Onamacare. Funny, how history repeats.
  4. Tower06, I will be exceedingly surprised if anyone can quote to you any statute which explains that this is legal. Laws are not meant to explain lawful actions. They are there to explain what it is you are NOT permitted to do. It is this absence of any prohibiting law that makes this legal. Also, while I agree completely with you knowing exactly what the law is, do you really think that a LEO would know the difference? After all, we are talking about an internal part of a firearm. IANAL
  5. I only had Carl go over my M1 to ensure Safety as it was new to me and had sat for untold years. He also did a complete NM job on my M1A and while I am new to the M1A I know a good trigger job when I feel one and he knows how to make these wood rifles sing. I remember the work was nowhere near free, but I can also tell you that I don't miss the money as much as I would miss his work if I ever got ride of my M1A. What you plan to do with your rifle and how you want to use it are big questions that only you can answer. If you decide to have your rifle tweaked then Carl's work is more than worth the cost. Personally I have a thing for a perfectly tuned machine, and I am happy with mine. I hope to also make use of my M1A in competition one day, but I believe the limitation others are referring to only effects the stock M1 matches (I may have the wrong terms, but I think we all understand). Congrats on a great choice in rifle and most of all...enjoy it however you see fit...hopefully with much shooting.
  6. Carl did some work on mine and I fully recommend him. This is his website: http://www.radomski.us/njhp/major.htm You may also be interested in this review: http://m14forum.com/m14/95275-match-conditioned-sai-pics.html We are lucky to have such a great Garand gunsmith in our back yard here in NJ. Did you see that...I found a silver lining to being a gun guy in NJ.
  7. I can't speak to the Horandy, but as for the Dillon I think you would be better served with a 650 or even a 550. The 1050 is great for large lots of ONE caliber. It sounds like you want to do a number of calibers and this can quickly add cost and time changing things around. I have the 550 and think it is great for ease of caliber change and cost per caliber. It is a bit slower (not much) then the 650. However, they do now offer a case feeder for the 550 which would bumb the speed a bit if you were so inclined. I think any of these may be a bit hard to come by in the current climate so availability may be an issue with any choice. I for one would find what you want and wait to get it as this is a purchase that should last a few lifetimes. Last time I was at X-Ring in DE they had Dillion equipment in stock, but that was a couple months ago. Good luck.
  8. I also shoot from the left side and this works great for me. It feels stronger then any other ambi charging handle I have tried. I have not heard anyone complain, except for the price. So to me it is simply a matter of budget and priority. If your AR is worth this cost for a charging handle then I expect you will be happy with it. Good luck and enjoy.

    Custom grips

Lecky, As Pizza Bob said, there are many factors in such a decision. I know I was in your shoes last year and my biggest problem was knowing where to even look for custom grips. While I only have the single resource point for you I'm sure there are others on this forum with more suggestions as to custom shops which also may be a bit small and hard to find with a simple wen search. Plus it is always good to hear pros and cons with regards to small outfits. Take your time and find just what you are looking for. Things I learned I needed to consider included: Thin vs reg grip thickness Gloss vs Mat finish Textured fully, partially, or not at all Material; different woods, synthetics, or exotics like snake skin (anaconda looks bad ass) I personally went with thin, glossy, and no texturing. This also meant that I had to buy new, shorter grip screws and screw posts for the thinner wood. Just a few considerations if you, like me, had not thought bout them all. Nice to have a thread with such a good problem to solve in light of all of the more painful considerations of late.

    Custom grips

http://www.thefinergrain.com/ I strongly recommend 'Sarge' at the finer grain if you are looking for excellent custom wood. I have a set of snake wood grips on my Dan Wesson CCO and they are great looking. I have only placed one order with him, but the service and quality were top notch.
  11. Good question. I have also read the part regarding no manufacturing firearms in NJ without some permit. No time to lookup the las now, but I'm sure some like Paul will have the ref. So is there any place to do this, yourself, in PA?
  12. I thought there were 23 bills being voted on Thursday. Which bill(s) died?
  13. I'll bite, where can I find a M44? I've been looking for a couple weeks.
  14. If you can find them cheaper elsewhere then you are doing better then me.
  15. Thanks for the report. Would the Allentown show be any better/bigger? Thinking ahead for the next show. Thanks
  16. Is it even worth trying to get in after noon? I was thinking of going, but I would have my better half with me and waiting outside for a long time is a deal breaker for that. So any intel on the current wait?
  17. So tell me why the pro 2A politicians don't hold out and simply allow the court ordered time to run out and have constitutional carry. I know this would be a huge change for IL, but why give in now?
  18. 12 noon on 19 Jan demonstration home page (I think): http://www.guncontrolmorecrime.com/ It then leads you to two Facebook pages. One has each state broken out with a website and/or email. NJ only has an email. 10 AM on 8 Feb demonstration with local organization by the NJ2AS: http://www.nj2as.com/EVENTS?eventId=605978
  19. I'm interested in both dates, however my understanding is that the NJ2AS is pushing for Feb 8. Do we know if any pro-2A groups are leading the way locally for this Saturday 19 Jan. Also, are there any permits required?
  20. I'm in for a group buy as well. Put me down for 2,000
