  1. I prefer the Hornady Rapid Vault with RFID. It is mains powered with battery and key backup. http://m.hornady.com/store/RAPiD-Safe-2700-XL It's cheaper buying from retailers rather than Hornady directly.
  2. None of that is funny regardless of the music. When you've looked down the end of a loaded gun with an idiot behind it you'll not be quite so merry either.
  3. The kicker in this case was that the officer claimed the LEO discount and therefore started in the paperwork that he was buying it for himself. In actual fact his father, living in another state had already paid him for it. This made it a straw purchase with a side helping of fraud.
  4. It would be a temporary transfer which requires you to be present for the duration and can be for no more than 8 hours in a 24 hour period. If you are not going to be on the hunt there is an alternative: If you both have FPID cards and you are both NJ residents you could do a full transfer by filling in COE forms and the shotgun would then be his. There is no law saying you can't do a full transfer back again on Friday.
  5. Would stick on rubber feet solve the issue and reduce the likelihood of them sliding off each other at the same time?
  6. When we suffered the pistol ban in the UK in 1997 many of us went to pistol caliber carbines. Semi-auto centerfire rifles had already been banned so many of us went with .38/.357 underlevers. Winchester, Rossi and Marlin were the common ones. The Rossi was just way too short in LOP for me. The Winchester frequently failed to feed if you were racking it too fast. The new round would stand up and jam similar to a stove pipe. The Marlin, having a top strap didn't suffer from the feed issue and was also much easier to mount an optic - pre-drilled and tapped. My advice is get a used Marlin. ETA: We used to shoot a version of the Police Pistol competitions. In one major match I scored 300, 20x with my Marlin. It was a 30 round CoF.
  7. I think that's a really bad idea. It's an escalation of force with nothing to back it up. I'm sorry to say it, but this lady does not seem to want to accept responsibility for her own safety and won't take steps to be able to protect herself. The conservation is moot anyway, because if she won't even go to the range to receive basic training on gun safety and operation, she's never going to do the paperwork to buy a gun either. Have her invest in a monitored alarm system with a panic button.
  8. This is why they invented gift bags. I can wrap. My girlfriend is hopeless at it, but at least she admits it.
  9. I have one that I bought used. I like it. Good balance, not too heavy, decent accuracy. There are reports that the older ones are better than the newer ones in terms of quality of the finishing.
  10. You ignore it. They lost a court case so they can't insist on that any more.
  11. Thanks for the quick answers. We've decided to head down to the shore since this is likely the last nice day of the year.
  12. There's a chance I could drop in with my girls after 1 if you guys are still there. Are they allowed to use their .22 rifles?
  13. The range is outdoors so dress accordingly for the weather. I'm hoping it will be nice still. I'll be there from somewhere between 9:30 and 10 but I'll be on the rifle range zeroing a new to me rifle. I'll start setting up the class at around 11. Help won't be turned away, but this is a paid class, not a match where everybody involved is a volunteer.
  14. ...aaaaannnnddddd they're all gone. Anyone still interested can grab a spot on the wait list.
  15. It's the 16" heavy barrel. I haven't put a scope on it yet so it feels quite nose heavy. I'm hoping the glass will balance it out a bit. I got it used. It should be good for 600-800 yards.
  16. I didn't buy another AR. I bought an FNAR! Just need mags and ammo now.
  17. Bump. Less than 2 weeks to go and only 4 places left.
  18. No. EFGA membership is not needed. Welcome aboard!
  19. Bumpity bump. This class has limited spaces to ensure everybody gets a good amount of trigger time. Book your spot here: http://idpa-intro.eventbrite.com
  20. The practice runs from 7-9 on the Wed after the match because that's what is convenient for me. Yes we run timers. The CoF is whatever the people there want to work on. We try to do a variety of things from fundamentals to more advanced stuff. Come along and see. The only trouble is that if there is a new shooter there a chunk of my time is consumed giving them a briefing.
  21. Hear about the pencil with an eraser on both ends? It was pointless.
  22. Kid in math class says he's cold. "Go sit in the corner." says the teacher, "It's 90 degrees."
  23. I have the range booked so if you want to come, sign up at the link below. There are some details of what the class covers too. http://idpa-intro.eventbrite.com
  24. This is why I specifically didn't want a 686+.
  25. 1. Only SCFGPA members can come to practice night. 2. There's a Yahoo page? I never knew. Match day is the 3rd Sunday of the month and sign in starts at 11am. The match will run until about 4pm usually but varies month to month. If you'd like to help set up I'm usually there at 10am. 3. We limit the number of shooters so we can be sure of finishing before work on Monday morning lol. Regular matches are 30 shooters, classifiers take longer so only 18. Sign up here: http://somersetidpa.eventbrite.com I'll set up next month's page in the next day or so. November will be our regular annual classifier match. Stu Gepp. Match Director, Somerset IDPA.
