  1. Have not seen scores from today. We were the 2nd group on the asphalt action range, some of us hung around at the end, and got to run that sixth stage. The shotgun was the last thing I expected at a defensive pistol shot, but it was interesting. That first stage with the shotgun was the better shotgun event. Louu, I remember you posting after shooting your first IDPA, I guess you moved on to USPSA? Still grabbing an IDPA every once in a while?
  2. Caugh it! First one, loved it! RO & RSO's were patient and helpful, all of the shooters seemed like a great group of folks. Looking forward to the next one.....
  3. Nice! I'm in Southern Jersey, will keep an eye out for you. Good live Blues is hard to come by....
  4. Good posts, good information as far as availability of stock when you get there. I wouldn't commit at this time (don't want to be one of those ooh ooh guys), but it would be nice to keep this thread alive. I would like to go there sometime.
  5. Regular guy Happy with the Howard Leight's (we all know they have a power saver - auto shut off after 4 hours?). I shoot average 3x month, 4 hours average time at the range. I've been using the same pair for about 9 months. Got my son and son-in-law a set for Christmas last year (one's military, the other an avid hunter), they wear them every time we go to the range, never heard them complain. - just my $.02

  8. Welcome Chris! Teky0101, is that a Corgi? Yours? Is Quinton Sportsmen's Club running a modern rifle shoot this weekend? Got any details on that shoot? Thanks!
  9. Good article from the Star Ledger The man behind NJ's Supreme Court gun case: Mark Di Ionno Mark Di Ionno/Star-Ledger Columnist John Drake got his juvenile hunting license when he was 10, and had to go almost no farther than his backyard to hunt with his father and grandfather. The view from the back of his Fredon Township home is of the state’s 2,000-acre Whittingham wildlife preserve. Drake belongs to two ranges, holds every conceivable gun safety certification, and has been authorized to carry a handgun in Florida and Utah, which gives him reciprocal rights in 36 other states. New Jersey isn’t one of them, so two years ago he applied for a state permit. This began a legal journey that ended Monday, when the Supreme Court refused to hear Drake’s challenge to the state law that restricts residents from carrying guns in public without a justifiable need. "People have been so supportive," Drake said at his home the day after the ruling. "I almost think I let them down." But there is more to John Drake than guns. "I think people were surprised to find I wasn’t a Jesse James type, or some kind of nut job," said Drake, who was backed by several Second Amendment advocate groups. "And that I’m quite reasonable." Drake is the kind of guy often described as a pillar of the community. He lives in the same house he grew up in, and has been married to the same woman for 34 years. He is a director of Sussex County Economic Development Partnership. He is a commissioner with the county utilities authority, and on the state’s labor mediation board. He’s on or has been on the boards of the county United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Newton Hospital. "If you name it, I’ve been on it," he said. He was a Sprint executive for 34 years and owns several businesses, including a cigar store. There are no guns displayed in the living areas of his home, or any signs or slogans about guns or gun rights. He has two signs that say: "This house is protected by the Good Lord and a gun. You might meet them both if you come in unwelcomed." One is in the garage, the other faces the backyard. "I’ve only had them two weeks. They were a present from a friend. He’ll probably want them back now that we lost the case." He also believes there is plenty of room for "reasonable" compromise on gun issues. "That is the answer," he said. "But right now we have people who hate guns and want no guns, and people who want no restrictions on buying weapons or ammunition. The solutions lie somewhere in the middle." Drake does not believe guns or ammunition should be sold to anyone who doesn’t hold a firearms identification, and believes background checks — criminal and mental health — and safety certification should be prerequisites. "I know it’s a pain, but it’s a worthwhile pain," he said. That said, he also believes people like him — "law-abiding citizens" — should be allowed to carry guns in every state, including New Jersey, without having to "justify their constitutional right." Drake was asking for the right-to-carry permit because he has a business that installs, repairs and loads ATMs, and he often carries large sums of cash. He has about 30 machines in convenience stores, bars and bodegas, and more than a few are in rough areas. One night after filling a machine in a go-go bar in Newark’s Ironbound, he was followed out by two men. He evaded them, but it got him thinking. "The truth is, I’m not worried about getting robbed because it’s only money," he said. "I worry about what happens when (the criminal) doesn’t want to leave any witnesses." He was denied the permit because he did "not detail an urgent necessity for self-protection as evidenced by prior specific threats or previous attacks demonstrating a special danger to your life," according to a letter from the state. "Generalized fears for personal safety are inadequate, and a need to protect property does not alone suffice." "They are essentially saying something awful has to happen to you before you can defend yourself," Drake said. But as Drake went through the process of denial after denial, he began to think the issue was less about guns and more about the Constitution. "It’s like when you get an illness, then you learn as much about it as the doctor," he said. "I think that should be the underlying message of all this: It’s not all about guns, it’s about the abridgement of the Constitution." FOLLOW THE STAR-LEDGER: TWITTER • FACEBOOK • GOOGLE+
  10. Sounds like your wife might be a JEEP CHIC, might not be nothing you can do but get her one! 2014 Cherokee (for going out) 2002 TJ (4 inch lift, 33's, and 4:11) to keep the fun in going to work 1983 CJ just for the pure FUN of it...... (And hard tops are nothing but a pain in the ass.....)
  11. Seems like not too long ago there weren't that many around, you were more likely to be questioned then. There is a ton of them around now, seems like they are readily available and you see them displayed in just about every gun/ammo store. I haven't been bothered over mine, nor have I seen anyone else get questioned (SJSC & MHRPC).
  12. Same here, drove past the place everyday for over 30 years, never stopped to check it out. Last year my son in law convinced me to go with him for a hundred rounds - it was GREAT! I've been back a few times, and I'm even looking into a new barrel for my 1100, or possibly a new shotgun getting an edge on my hits. http://www.mmhunting.com
  13. Up til about 3 months ago, I was seeing it at Dick's in Deptford. Stopped to check every Friday night, was usually able to find something every second or third stop. I haven't seen anything for awhile. I hope it's not (and afraid it might be), that there are "notification list" and if you're not on one, you're shit out of luck.
  14. Saved $18.00 on an IDPA competition pack (noob)
  15. 9mm shield w/ Hidden Hybrid IWB - comfortable
  16. Nice, I almost didn't watch that, I'm glad I did. Thanks for putting that together, hope to join you shortly...
  17. Can't believe I'm reading this stuff, there is no better way to get to know your rifle. The more you clean it, the more efficient you get at it, and the better you get to know the weapon, the ammo, wear and tear on the weapon, etc. Am I missing something? ( I'll give you this, I have not ventured into building my own).
  18. Banger's in Winslow (Camden County) offers a complete Utah class (prints, pic, application) on the first Saturday go each month (check their website for details). I took the class with a friend, we got our cards in 7 weeks. They offer the documentation for 3 other states (additional fee), I know Flordia is one of them. You will need to jump through a few additional hoops for the additional states - I think you need an additional 8 hour NRA safety class, and you have to send in the application with fee yourself for any one or all 3 of the additional states. You should check the website or call Banger's for details.
  19. Can anyone comment on how the IDPA match affects the regular course of business at SJSC? My son picked up a new gun, we have a few limited hours to run some rounds through it early Saturday afternoon, should we expect the pistol range to be out of service or do they run the IDPA down on the action range? Thanks
  20. Took the class at Banger's in Winslow on January 4, recieved the permit on February 21.
  21. Some excellent post so far, if I can get off from work I'll go - these "what to expect" posts will be very helpful. And if I can't get there, I've spent all spare time for the past week on phone calls, emails, FB, and Twitter - hopefully it helps
  22. Hello Drewp, very similar story here, been back at it for awhile. Also shoot at SJSC - it's a great place to shoot, looking forward to participating in some of their 3 gun And 200 yard action shoots this year. There are several members of this forum shooting at SJSC.
