FN 5.7 use by Ft Hood murderer

It appear that the guy used a FN 5.7.

 

Reading up on this thing, it apparently tumbles quickly but doesn't expand. It also has very high velocity but energy isn't that great. This probably explains all the wounded. The bullets were going through the first person and entering the second.

 

Anyone have any experience with this round or firearm?

this 5.7 round was origionally just a military round, has high muzzle velocity, very nice round

weird looking gun. never heard of it before. and holding 30 rounds in one pistol........no matter how weak the round may be, youve got more then enough to do more damage.

It holds 20 in the mag and 1 in the chamber,there are mag extenters for a extra 10 but don't seem to work all that good.

NJ/CA version has a ten round mag.

5.7's are known to fire one of the hottest rounds. There was discussion of this awhile back on these forums, and someone broke down the numbers. There is a military-grade round and civilian round... the difference being a thousand FPS or so. Definitely over-penetration, but as lethal as anything else out there.

I didn't say it couldn't possibly kill you. If you get hit in the head or the heart it's game over with almost anything, though I think most people don't realize that the most effective headshots either cross into both hemispheres or go through the medulla.
