Old school is correct, most .22 conversions are as easy as replacing the slide/barrel/spring and changing mags. It usually takes less than 5mins.

And some would say JMB improved his designs one step further with the gun he created after the 1911, the Browning Hi-Power, on which the CZ 75 was based (and IMO, improved on).

Glock and Advantage Arms conversion kit. I have one and is great. You only exchange the slide and you're good to go.

I'd have to agree with the CZ 75B suggestion. Unlike many other kits the barrel/slide is fixed to the frame and is one of the most accurate conversion kits. The frame on the CZ is also steel so the gun will not be too light with a conversion kit installed unlike alloy or polymer framed guns.

 

Or you can go with a 1911 and you get many more choices in conversion kits. I have a Marvel kit that shoots under 1/2" at 50yards. It's insanely accurate and has the same design as the CZ kit.
