it is plausible, but without documentation they are nothing. In WWII it was common for troops to take the plexiglass from downed aircraft windows and make everything from knife handles to pistol grips. Under the grips, they would often put a pic of their girl, thus the nickname sweetheart grips. I have seen 2 original 1911's like this that were smuggled home by the GI's that carried them.
