Monolithic upper?

Its when the upper and rail is all one piece as opposed to the upper receiver and rails be two separate pieces.

To me, monolithic uppers, for the most part, fall into the category of billet lowers. Very few people have use for it, and otherwise a manufacturer is charging a premium for the product.

 

The MRP does have a nice feature, with the "easy barrel swap" mechanism they have; but again, how many would have use for such a thing?

I know a person can argue that for the cost of an complete upper + quality rails might run you a little less than a monolithic upper... it still seems like more of a novelty. Unless you're running a dot w/ a magnifier, and then a PEQ15 or something, I don't see the advantage (as a person can just make sure they install the rails correctly the first time).

 

I say go for it if its what you really want! I'm not trying to be negative about it ; figured you had asked, so, I might give you both sides
