First AR purchase SIG 556

What do you guys think? Its a Sig 556 W/ the Sig Red Dot Sight. I paid $999, i though that was a great price for this rifle. The pics not that clear, i took it with my phone.

Great rifle, I had one before. Never had any issues with it. A little front heavy but thats about it. Enjoy it!

Good price. I remember when I paid $1400 for mine back in the Obama rush.

 

I like my 556. The heavy front end, and long stroke piston action makes for a smooth firing combination.

btw, by not a true AR.... did not mean to take anything away from the Sig. I think it is a superior firearm to regular AR's. =)

I'm going to go to Range 14 this weekend to test it out. any advice on ammo type and ammo deal? hows Herter's .223 Remington Ammunition? its pretty cheap ammo.

Herters is steel cased cheap stuff. Come on Sunday - there's a bunch of us going to Range 14.

You may have an issue with steel cased stuff in the sig at least initially.

 

Get some Brass cased ammo, PMC, Remington, Federal, American Eagle, etc.

I've run plenty of cheap stuff through mine. I use Silver Bear for cheap plinking, and Lake City M855 for more serious shooting. Silver Bear is cheap, and doesn't have the lacquer coating the brown stuff has (is zinc plated), so shouldn't cause any issues with loading or extraction.

I have the Sig 522 and have been looking for a 556 but the prices are still high although they have come down a lot. I have seen out of state 556 for as low as $850. When/if it gets to that price I'll grab one. It looks like a fine rifle, enjoy it.
