rifleman 90 Posted July 23, 2011 Get rid of the plastic mag. I used to have to hold it forward a little to get it to feed & cycle right. Now it is in pieces in a landfill.
chris327 30 Posted September 4, 2011 Hey guys, what upgrades do you do to the 10/22 besides the extractor? I have the extended mag release on it and going to order the extractor. Any other small parts that will improve this rifle?

Wolfy 51 Posted September 4, 2011 I hate the factory 10/22 mags the spring always lost it's tension.
XDJohnTact 49 Posted September 4, 2011 I hate the factory 10/22 mags the spring always lost it's tension. I guess I just don't shoot my 10/22 enough? I have 5 factory mags and have never had a problem? Three were clear that I dyed so I had to wind them when I put them back together. Maybe that attention to detail helped? Wolfy 51 Posted September 4, 2011 Hey John. I know about tensioning the spring. My BIL has the same issues with the mags.
Melgamatic 66 Posted September 4, 2011 I hate the factory 10/22 mags the spring always lost it's tension. Hm, I wonder what's different. I shoot around 350-500 rounds in 10/22 every 2 weeks, and have never had a problem with any magazine. I only have Ruger factory magazines, maybe 8 of them. We usually load up 6-8 mags, shoot them with a couple rifles, reload, etc, for a few hours every other weekend or more. Never a single failure of any kind from any of the mags. djg0770 481 Posted September 4, 2011 I've experienced this and fixed it too. Minor maintenance imo.
tbtrout 141 Posted September 4, 2011 The only problem I have had with any of our 10/22's, is when I replaced the charging handle and spring. I had to cut a few coils off of the new spring because it was causing stove pipes.
chris327 30 Posted September 4, 2011 Anyone use an aftermarket charging handle? Or the volquartsen bolt release?

Any other small parts that will improve this rifle? I installed: 1. extractor 2. mag release 3. bolt release (when it is latched open just pull back, release and it closes) The extractor is like magic. No more problems. chris327 30 Posted September 5, 2011 Almiz all volkquartsen parts? I have a mag release I don't know the brand but its a polished one that goes under the trigger guard. Going to order the volkquartsen extractor, bolt release and maybe charging handle. Anhthing else? Or better brand than volkquartsen.
XDJohnTact 49 Posted September 5, 2011 I think Volksquarten is considered top notch for 10/22 parts. I have a generic extended mag release but Volks extractor, trigger kit and charging handle. I can't remember if I put in a Volks bolt release or another brand.
chris327 30 Posted September 5, 2011 Thanks john ordering them all now hoping I have them all before next weekend.

Midway was out of stock on the others so I used another brand. But I would stick to Volks if possible.
njgunguy609 0 Posted September 5, 2011 Had mine for about 2 years and put thousands of rounds through it. not one jam. i use winchester 36 gr. rimfire plated hollow point. ( I happen to have the box here next to me) box of 333.. sometimes i will also use cci mini mags but they are a litter more expensive. not to bad though. i also use the original magazine that came with it. only issue i have is sometimes the magazine wont come out unless i rack it. chris327 30 Posted September 5, 2011 So I ordered the extractor, auto bolt release and the volks hammer. Which reduces the trigger to 2.5 lbs they say. Can't wait for this stuff to arrive. Probobly going to order the charging handle next week. I haven't even shot this 10/22 yet but I'm excited to get these parts and install everything. Hopefully before the weekend. Any tips on installing?
chris327 30 Posted September 16, 2011 Finally just installed volks extractor, bolt release, and hammer. I have not even shot it yet since I got it. Very excited the trigger send much smoother and lighter now.
bry@n 195 Posted September 17, 2011 Chris, please let me know what you think after shooting it. I am considering doing the same upgrades and would like some info.
chris327 30 Posted September 17, 2011 Will do. I'm hapy without even shooting it. Only thing I know wish I got was the extended charging handle. The auto bolt release is nice. Easy to install the hammer kit was a bit tougher to install. But still not hard. Took maybe an hour to install everything and this was the first time I stripped it. I will update how it shoots. average joe 5 Posted September 17, 2011 Mine runs perfect, Ruger mags, Federal bulk ammo, and Volquartsen extractor.
chris327 30 Posted October 2, 2011 Bryan, just to update you. The 10/22 was great with the upgrades. No problems at all. Trigger was great.
bry@n 195 Posted October 3, 2011 Saw JonF's 10/22 today and it was exactly as I planned mine. It was very light and just awesome.
