How's your 10/22?

Recommended Posts

I hate the factory 10/22 mags the spring always lost it's tension.

I guess I just don't shoot my 10/22 enough? I have 5 factory mags and have never had a problem? Three were clear that I dyed so I had to wind them when I put them back together. Maybe that attention to detail helped?

Hm, I wonder what's different. I shoot around 350-500 rounds in 10/22 every 2 weeks, and have never had a problem with any magazine. I only have Ruger factory magazines, maybe 8 of them. We usually load up 6-8 mags, shoot them with a couple rifles, reload, etc, for a few hours every other weekend or more. Never a single failure of any kind from any of the mags.

Hey guys,

what upgrades do you do to the 10/22 besides the extractor? I have the extended mag release on it and going to order the extractor. Any other small parts that will improve this rifle?

I installed:

1. extractor

2. mag release

3. bolt release (when it is latched open just pull back, release and it closes)

The extractor is like magic. No more problems.

Almiz all volkquartsen parts? I have a mag release I don't know the brand but its a polished one that goes under the trigger guard. Going to order the volkquartsen extractor, bolt release and maybe charging handle. Anhthing else? Or better brand than volkquartsen.

I think Volksquarten is considered top notch for 10/22 parts. I have a generic extended mag release but Volks extractor, trigger kit and charging handle. I can't remember if I put in a Volks bolt release or another brand.

Only the extractor was Volks. Midway was out of stock on the others so I used another brand. But I would stick to Volks if possible.

Had mine for about 2 years and put thousands of rounds through it. not one jam. i use winchester 36 gr. rimfire plated hollow point. ( I happen to have the box here next to me) box of 333.. sometimes i will also use cci mini mags but they are a litter more expensive. not to bad though. i also use the original magazine that came with it. only issue i have is sometimes the magazine wont come out unless i rack it.

So I ordered the extractor, auto bolt release and the volks hammer. Which reduces the trigger to 2.5 lbs they say. Can't wait for this stuff to arrive. Probobly going to order the charging handle next week. I haven't even shot this 10/22 yet but I'm excited to get these parts and install everything. Hopefully before the weekend. Any tips on installing?

Will do. I'm hapy without even shooting it. Only thing I know wish I got was the extended charging handle. The auto bolt release is nice. Easy to install the hammer kit was a bit tougher to install. But still not hard. Took maybe an hour to install everything and this was the first time I stripped it. I will update how it shoots.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in

    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
