I tried searching but this stupid forum software doesn't allow me to search for any word under four characters. And guess what -- "type 06 ffl" won't work.

What I'm trying to figure out is how difficult it is in NJ to get a Type 06 FFL for the manufacture and sale of ammo. Anyone on here gone through the process care to enlighten me?

We DID have a couple of Powder Companies that operated in NJ, but i believe they all moved on decades ago. IIRC Hercules and Alliant both made powder, including BP in NJ at one point..i ALSO Believe they both had accidents and explosions which prompted them to move on.

I lived close enough to Hercules to be awoken one Saturday or Sunday morning in 1989...

You will need local zoning approval first, then apply for both a NJ license and Federal license.

Pretty much what I thought. Something tells me that the local and state approvals are going to be more difficult than the Federal. This state simply hates the gun industry.

Actually, state and federal is probably both relatively easy, local...not so much.

Getting a type 6 federally is easy if you can get zoned for it locally. You can then manufacture bullets and jackets without additional licenses since NJ doesn't regulate their sale.

If you want to sell or manufacture ammunition you'll need NJ licenses as well which becomes more of a problem. You'll need a NJ retail FFL, and powder magazine licenses. You need to make quite a few sales to make it worthwhile.

The Hercules explosion in the 80's woke me up at 4 in the morning, and I lived 12 miles away at the time.
