Suggestions for an inexpensive scope for a Marlin 60

Hey folks, just ordered a Marlin 60DLX and was looking for suggestions on an inexpensive but decent scope for it. It is going to be used for recreational target shooting and plinking around.

Bushnell Rimfire Series. If you're shooting 100yds and closer, this is the only scope that Marlin needs. Comes with rings and the scope for under 40 bucks.

on a Marlin 795. Used it about 4 times total at the range, roughly 800 rounds, no issues at all..

 

 

On a windy day at range 14, kept about a 2 inch group at 125 yards no problem.

I believe I have a cheap Simmons 3-9x32 on my Marlin XT-22 and a Simmons 4x32 on my 25N, both designed for .22s and included rings. I think the 4x was 30, the 3-9x was 35, and I got at least one at Ramsey Outdoors, the other may have been at Dicks.

 

For the ranges I've shot them at, which is admittedly only 35yds max so far, they are accurate and have held zero. I wouldn't put them on an Anshutz .22, but for a basic plinker, I am happy.

Just don't buy anything tasco. They are crap. I have an inexpensive simmons on one of my .22s and it is a great scope for the money (around $40 or so).

Update - I picked up the Marlin last week.

 

When I got it home, I gave it a real close inspection and found the "front sight ramp insert" looked like a chimp pounded it in. I called Marlin and they've got a replacement on the way. The scope should be arriving from Amazon any day now.

 

The rest of the gun looks like it was assembled with care. The checkering on the stock was good, and the action is smooth. The receiver had the gold laser engraved serial number and "50th Anniv." markings. There was no "gold fill" on the barrel markings though......

 

From what I'm reading on the intarwebs, there is much confusion about the serial numbers on these models.

 

It appears that the first 200 had a serial number that started with 60DLX000 - then they decided that they were going to build more than 1000 of them. (10,000 was the number, I think) Due to limitations in the laser engraver, they had to shorten the "60DLX" to "60DL" to accommodate the extra digit.

 

Well - mine has a serial number that starts with "MM". (MMxxxxxG)

 

I think that these were selling so well that they decided to make more than 10,000. For all I know, they could still be pumping these things out at the new Remington facility. So much for "limited edition" but hey - I got my mitts on one in 2012 when these were 2010 models. It's for shooting and not collecting, so I am still a happy camper.

 

Looking forward to getting it out and dialing in the scope!

Not very cheap, but not a real high end scope but a darn good one that will probably be good for just about anything you would want to do with a scoped 22LR rifle. Have you looked at the Pro-staff 150 BDC?

LOL - yeah, I've drooled at the Nikons but like a high end golf club in the hands of an amateur, I doubt it would help my skills any!

I hear ya, but I figured it this way, It more scope than I need and for just about any 22LR rile I ever get it will be more than enough scope for me, so to me it's not money wasted in the long run. As they say, Buy once, Cry once, but for under 150 bucks on sale, there isn't a lot of crying.

I've got to do my taxes to see if I owe, or I am getting a refund. If I am getting a refund, I plan on setting aside some money for another pistol and maybe a nice scope like a Pro Staff for the old Winchester. Certainly nothing wrong with splurging to buy something a little over the top considering that firearms and accessories tend to hang around a long time. (at least in my family) The Winchester 77 belonged to my dad - he bought it at the PX when he was in the service and used it for plinking around when things got boring. He gave it to me, and I will give to one of mine in the future.
