United States Flag Code

good!

I'll tell you something else. My brother in law was a county official in north jersey.

When they would hold the memorial services for one of our heroes KIA, a lot of times he

would be the one handing the folded flag to the widow or family. No higher ranking

congressional or state dignitaries would even show up at these services. That is truly sad.

Went to Kempton flag in Wall yesterday as my flag was starting to tatter. I complained to the owner about him flying at half staff for WH, but he said he had to comply with the Gov. At least they will be flying at half staff on Monday for a true hero, the Marine killed in Afghanistan.

Why did he have to comply with the gov't? It wasn't a presidential order, nor did it meet the criteria set forth by the U.S. Flag Code.

I'd imagine for similar reasons that people comply with illegal laws. Because there are potential repercussions if you don't. Or maybe just out of routine compliance. I'm not exactly sure but whatever the reason, apparently logic was not part of it.

WGME 13 :: Slain soldier's father protests NJ flag-lowering

February 21, 2012 00:29 GMT

By COREY WILLIAMS Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) -- A western Michigan man whose son was killed while serving in the military has burned a replica of New Jersey's flag to protest that state's decision to lower it in honor of performer Whitney Houston.

John Burri set the flag on fire Saturday on a grill outside his home in Wyoming, near Grand Rapids.

The 60-year-old Burri says lowering flags should be done for men and women who have given their lives in service to the United States.

Army Specialist Eric Burri died in 2005 in Baghdad. Michigan flags were lowered in his honor.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie defended his decision to lower flags for Houston. Christie noted the 48-year-old icon was born in Newark and raised in nearby East Orange.

Houston died Feb. 11 in Beverly Hills, Calif

I don't agree with his actions yet understand and agree with the statement he was trying to make.

The statement that we should celebrate and honor celebrities who abuse drugs? Or the statement that the rich are more important than our Law Enforcement and Military members who gave their lives for the state and country? I can't agree with that statement he was trying to make.

I was referring to the guy from Michigan not Gov Christie. I agree with the statement he was making by burning the flag. I don't agree with burning the flag in the first place.

I also understand his reasoning behind it, but I would never endorse burning a flag. But..is it weird that this doesn't bother me at all compared to someone descecrating a U.S. flag. Burn an American flag in front of me and we're gonna fight, but a state flag doesn't seem to bother me... Is that weird?
