eBay now allows firearm parts to be sold

Recommended Posts

This is a change! Not sure when this took place since i never really go to ebay for gun stuff, but i have bought some shooting related fringe items there in the past. I recently was searching for some milsurp related items and noticed magazines, barrels and other parts come up right before my eyes. :icon_eek:

According to thier policy, this is what goes:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/firearms-weapons-knives.html

Actual firearms can't be listed on eBay. However, many parts and accessories for firearms are OK to sell, but only under certain conditions. See the list below for more details.

Allowed

  •
    Caliber conversion information or blueprints

  •
Magazine holders, speed loaders, stripper clips, or moon clips

  •
Manuals or instruction materials about firearms

Restricted

  •
Accessories and parts for guns such as butt plates, cases, cleaning supplies, dies, grips, holsters, molds, racks, pistol grips, scopes, slings, stocks, storage cases, or trigger guards. The listing must include a description of the type of firearm the accessory or part is for and what it's used for. If it doesn't, the listing may be removed.

  •
Muzzle loader or black powder gun parts or accessories, as long as each item is offered in one listing at a time. (However, having separate listings for items that can be used to build a gun is prohibited.)

  • The following gun parts and accessories are allowed on the eBay US site only. The seller must be in the US and offer domestic shipping only:

    •
      En bloc clips

    •
      Barrels

    •
      Bolts

    •
      Choke tubes

    •

    •
      Firing pins

    •

    •
Magazines with a capacity to accept 10 rounds or less (high-capacity magazines that can accept more than 10 rounds are not allowed)

    •
      Slides

    •
      Trigger assemblies

iconNotAllowed_25x25.gif

Not allowed

  •
Firearms regardless of their ability to fire, how old they are, or their status as collectibles

  •
    Firearm frames, including grip frames

  •
Firearm kits that are used to create a firearm

  •
Firearm receivers, including parts, upper or lower, cut, or 80 percent receivers

  •
    Flash suppressors

  •
High-capacity magazines with a capacity to accept more than 10 rounds—or magazine extenders

  •
    Pneumatic spear guns

  •
Powerheads, stick guns, or their equivalents because they work like firearms

  •
    Sears

  •
    Silencers

  •
Starter pistols or blank guns, regardless of their markings

  •
    Zip guns

In contrast though, PayPal doesn't seem to line up with eBay in terms of acceptable items you can use the service for. The irony is that ebay owns paypal and if im not mistaken, you cannot sell an item anymore without a paypal account so if you want to sell, you need to include paypal as an option and therein lies the contradiction. You can't even do a discrete payment since checkout will link the auction to the payment. I have to wonder if they just haven't gotten to changing thier policy yet or if they're sticking to thier proverbial guns on the matter and any attempt to use the service will get you in trouble.

What is PayPal’s policy on transactions that involve firearms?

We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

For example, using PayPal, you can’t buy or sell:

  • Any firearm, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they’re for sport and recreation, collectibles, or curio or relic firearms.
  • Firearm parts, including but not limited to receivers and frames, silencers, and kits designed to modify guns so that they fire automatically. High capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers are other items in this category.
  • Ammunition, including propellants like gunpowder or blank ammunition; ammunition or cartridge cases; and primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.

Paypal doesn't list slides or low cap mags etc. Seems ok.

Firearm parts seem to be a no-go.

I have purchased parts with paypal. It lists things that are restricted. But I don't think ALL firearm parts are banned. Its just a way to give them an out should they decide to kill your sale.

Ebay are asshats, they'll get around to allowing guns when they need the revenue though. They've been steadily jacking fees for years.

thats really what it comes down to....a bunch of liberal CA computer nerds, you get 2 results.

1) they buy a gun and love it, and decide to 'join the club'

2) they run out of money due to cryptic policies and bad representation of sellers/vs shady buyers, and lose money, and fully open up to gun sales.

Ebay sounds like Jersey in cyberspace. Can I carry while clicking on their home page?

ebay and paypal are the same company so if you can buy it on ebay you can purchase it with paypal!

You just cant list it as gun parts with paypal. Metal parts, Machined parts, accessories..as long as the word "Gun" or "Firearm' doesnt appear in the description it's not a problem..Screw Paypal.

There's plenty of reasons to screw paypal and this one certainly helps.

final value fees, ebay vs auctionarms vs gunbroker: (not including paypal fees)

ebay: (no ebay store) 9%, max of $100 (going up to $250 soon)

ebay; (ebay store, 15.99/month): 7.5% of 1st $50, 4% of next $950, 2% above $1k

auctionarms, gunbroker (same): 5% of 1st $25, 2.5% of next $975, 1.25% above $1k

big time ebay powersellers get up to 25% off FVF's based on Detailed seller ratings (the 1-5 star thing).

insertion fees:

auctionarms, gunbroker: none

ebay (no ebay store) 50 free/month then 0.10 to 2.00 depending on price ($2 for items above $200, $1 from $50-199, 75c from $25-50, etc).

ebay (ebay store, 15.99/month): no free listings, then same as above.
