Bipods?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

 

I'm planning on putting a bipod on my AR and was just wondering what the consensus is on them? Pros/cons? worth it/not? and if there are any that members here would recommend?

Personally I dont put bipod's on carbines, only precision AR's.

I had a bipod from my 30-06 that I use on my ar when I use the benchrest. UTG combat profile height. Does the job.

Harris is kind of the standard. You can spend a lot more and get a very robust tactical one, like GG&G, or spend a lot less for a Chinese Harris knock-off that may not be worth the metal it's made from. If primarily shooting from a bench the 6" - 9" works well - but will not clear a 30 round mag at less than the max height (9" - like we have to worry about 30 round mags here). The 9" - 13" works well as an all-around (except sitting of course), prone or from a bench. I prefer the swivel heads to accommodate uneven terrain. Usually around $70 to $90.

On an AR I only like a decent quality bipod mounted to an aluminum (most ridgid) free floating hand guard.
