Should we ban knives and knife sharpeners?

Recommended Posts

Another tragedy of a disturbed person killing others, but with a knife. It just proves that it's the person, not the weapon, that is the problem.

BEIJING—A teenager killed eight people with a knife and wounded five more in northeast China after falling out with his girlfriend, state media said Thursday.

The teen killed two of her family members and six more people before fleeing, the state-run Legal Daily newspaper said. It reported he was caught but did not describe the circumstances.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the attack took place Wednesday night in Liaoning province. Media said the 17-year-old suspect is from Fushun city and his surname is Li. The attack happened in Yongling town.

Police in Xinbin County, which oversees the town, declined to comment.

Violent crimes are growing more common in China. There was a string of knife attacks against schoolchildren across the country in early 2010 that killed nearly 20 and wounded more than 50.

I posed the very same question after a rash of stabbings in NYC awhile back, also if you scan the crime stats in Britain you will see a huge increase in knife crime since handguns were banned. To the point where buying a pocket knife is nearly impossible.

Ironically shootings has increased also since the inception of the EC and open borders with hand guns being smuggled in from the old Soviet Bloc countries.

So guns in the hands of criminals with law abiding Brits with no way to defend themselves.

This is what some Americans are striving for.....

I think tooth picks should be banned. You can take an eye out with those things. You can also poke the roof of your mouth and cause excessive bleeding. They are some baaaad maama jaama doze dare pix!

Damn near any object can be used as a deadly weapon in the proper hands. I don't see them outlawing pens, pencils, flashlights, keys, etc anytime soon, do you? How many people have been totally messed-up with baseball bats?

About 18 years ago I saw a kids cartoon on TV. In the cartoon the government or aliens or something had banned all weapons. Live was good for a while. Then a fight broke out. Some hooligan took a 2x4 and put a nail through it. He then proceeded to cause havoc and panic as the people ran yelling "he's got a sharp stick'.

You forgot hands themselves. More people in 2010 were beaten to death in the US than killed with rifles.

In Philly you can be sentenced to jail for having a knife unless you are actually using it for work at the time you have it. Please do not take a knife to Philly.

I'm sure there are crazier laws out there, too.
