"Hypothetical" Assault Weapon Ban Question

Recommended Posts

Ok, here is the question. I placed an order with a dealer for 2 AR's on December 18th. Initially we were told by the manufacturer it would be 4-6 weeks. He received an email today, saying the order would now be 6 months. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Here is the question.

"HYPOTHETICALLY" if our disillusioned government were to actually pass another AWB before I received my order. What would happen? Do I lose my deposit because I am not in possession? Does the manufacturer have to refund the deposit back to the dealer?

thoughts, suggestions?

I'm gonna say you are SOL. I would think that the actual transfer from your ffl into your name needs to happen before the ban takes effect. After a so called ban.. ffls won't be able to make transfers. The government don't give 2 dumps about your deposits

You could be asking this same question again in two years when the Republicans are about to get completely thrown out of Congress.

Heck, something weird may happen and this crap might take 7 months to go through and you could have had your stuff by then.

Never consider future politics when it comes to personal purchases.  You'll just wait yourself out of the market until it is too late.  If you lose, you lose.  If you don't try, you certainly loose, but have a few hundred extra bucks.  Which matters more 20 years from now?

Now, on the other hand, if you were "investing" in 10 of them with no specific intent to resell them at some point *wink wink*, then you should definitely consider which way the wind is blowing.  But that is much different.

On the third hand, if you are looking at alternatives to get something sooner, I think that's not a bad idea at all.  Maybe pick up a stripped lower (Mipa has them for $385 ;) )as a hedge or find one rifle available and cancel one of your two orders for what you wanted.

They should not have taken a deposit without knowng for certain that they could get this for you. I for one would not do business with an FFL that takes my money without being sure that they could get the gun for you.

I guess this is one of those situations, where I will just have to wait and see, if it comes earlier then they say... =(

Just sucks at time of order, we were told 6 weeks. But now being told 6 months... Thought I got ahead of the craziness..
