Krdshrk 3,878 Posted January 28, 2013 If you shoot USPSA.. USPSA is actually a 501©(3) charitable organization. Jan/Feb issue of Front Sight says that you could potentially use USPSA for some tax deductions... As in working matches and writing off travel, etc.

alec.mc 180 Posted January 28, 2013 So I can write off my registration fees ? Awesome
Maksim 1,504 Posted January 28, 2013 the membership part is not really, they had an issue about it. Your donations would be deductible, but otherwise, it is just membership to a club.... consult your tax professional.
raz-0 1,259 Posted January 28, 2013 Don't write off jack for USPSA as far as the standard stuff goes. Most of your fee goes to the host club, and there is no method of accounting for labor that would remotely pass muster if it even was eligible. MDs and stuff MIGHT be able to write off fuel, etc. for travel to the annual sectional meeting. The section coordinator is supposed ot attend all the matches in their section at some point, and could probably consider writing off the costs related to that. But both of those are much more involved in keeping USPSA running as a donation of time, materials, and labor without a middle man involved.
Smokin .50 1,907 Posted January 28, 2013 What you CAN write-off is a monetary donation over and above all of your Match fees, say in support of their Junior Shooter program, for instance. Charitable, Educational Non-Profit status also entitles gifts of hardware or supplies (guns and ammo) to be eligible (at fair market value), as well as the expenses of attending regional meetings as an elected representative of the body. What it does NOT let you do is show-up and start trying to write-off match fees (where the member receives a benefit--the match experience), travel to matches to shoot them, etc. As the former President of a state-wide Non-Profit and a board member of several others over my life time, I have personal knowledge of all of the above. In short, raz-o is right once again, lol! Dave
