SJ Shotgun Shootout interest?

Recommended Posts

Since Clinton is a bit to far for me to drive, I wanted to see if we could get some interest in doing one in South Jersey. There's a WMA range in Atlantic County and one in Cumberland County. Anybody up for this? I'm thinking the last weekend of Febuary, or first weekend in March. Saturday or Sunday, we'll figure that out if we get some people into it. So let's see what we can get going.

The only shotgun I currently have is my rifled Winchester 1300. If someone has a spare shotgun to lend for the day, I'll bring some clays and shells. I'm local to the Cumberland WMA... But that place usually fills up with some undesirables on weekends. Either place, I would like to put some faces to all the names on here.

I have 4 shotguns myself, and I have no problem with you shooting mine. I'm sure others would let you shoot theirs.

Depending on what's going on in my life then, I might be interested. Not a member of that range though.

You don't have to be a memeber. It's a Wildlife Management Area range.

Yeah it figures Im getting certified as a refuse to be a victim instructor the last weekend in feb and instructing in a NRA rifle instructors class the first weekend in march.

What if we do it on the 17th?

OH! I've been there before. It's on my way home from when I work down the shore in the Summer. A few times my friend would drive up, meet me there, and we'd shoot clays when I was done work.

I have to see what's up with school, and if I have cash.

Alright, folks, I think we have this figured out. I'm gonna set this up for the Sunday, the 17th of February. It will be held at the Millville WMA in Cumberland County. It's located on Ackley Road (Route 718) in Milliville.

I'm thinkin 10am start time, but show up whenever you feel like it. I know I for one will probably be there until sunset, unless one of my buddies decides he wants to leave earlier.

I'm stealing this next part from the Northerners:

Please try and bring everything you can in terms of a gun, ammo, and clays.

A rough check list of what to bring:

- Gun(s)

- Ammo (birdshot #7, 7.5, 8)

- Clays

- Thrower if you have one

- Eyes and ears

- Shell pouch

- Beverages/snacks

- Layer up and bring a warm jacket/gloves/hat depending on weather

- Chair

If you can't bring some things, we will have plenty of stuff there. If you've never shot a shotgun before, I and others will try working with you to be able to dust a clay by the end of the day!

Gun rules to remember:

Always treat a gun as if it was loaded

Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot

Never point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to destroy

Always be aware of you're target/line of fire

For this range, keep all guns unloaded until you're on the firing line

Be smart, be safe, and we will have a fun-filled day!

So who's in? I'm gonna start a list. I will be there with at least 2 or 3 of my buddies.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
