Damjan 73 Posted July 28, 2013 I m sure many of you didnt think about the Korean War today. But the Armistice was signed 60 years ago today. Respect eternal to all who gave the ultimate sacrifice there. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/06/remembering_the_korean_war_60.html Both my Granddads were KoreanVeterans (Navy). GRIZ 3,369 Posted July 28, 2013 Keep in mind that it is only an armistice. A cease fire agreement in order to work out a peace. Several hundred US military personnel have died in Korea since the truce. The most recent in 2010 IIRC.
wooly bugger 1 Posted July 28, 2013 Having visited the DMZ, I'd call the armistice fragile at best. It's amazing the provocations the S. Koreans put up with without retaliation. Can you imagine what would happen if a sovereign state sunk one of our ships and killed 46 US sailors?
Parker 213 Posted July 28, 2013 My Uncle Frank and Uncle Charles served in Korea. Frank spent a year with the Army and Charles with the 5th Marines. Charles avoided a career with the Yankees to enlist in the Marine Corps that summer. The 5th Marines arrived in Pusan on Aug. 2nd, 1950, and engaged the N. Koreans at the Battle of Naktong on Aug. 7th! He survived Inchon and the Chosin Reservoir conflicts, came home missing some toes from frostbite, went to law school on the G.I. Bill and became an attorney, and would die of cancer at the age of 40 years old in 1968.

Combat Auto 174 Posted July 28, 2013 +10 to the OP who must be relativily young (if his grandparents were in Korea - heck my Dad was in WW2) for posting this thread. Glad to see respect for the Vets.
mipafox 438 Posted July 28, 2013 Nobody in my family was there before the cease-fire, many since. We seemed to stop after WWII and pick up again at Vietnam. Nobody ever drafted - on the US side of the wars, anyway. I like that pic of your dad with the Pheasant Hope he didn't freeze any toes off. That place was a hell hole.
