Skin cancer - get checked

Recommended Posts

My wife started bugging me about a mole on my arm that's been there as long as I remember. She insisted that it didn't look right. Finally I got it cut off and analyzed.

Yep, it was cancerous. Very early stages, but it was melanoma and it was invasive. I had a big chunk of meat cut out of my arm today and, well it does suck. This is right near my elbow and I'm not supposed to bend my arm more than 10 degrees for the next two weeks. The upside is ill have a gnarly 5" scar I can lie about. Oh, and not dying from cancer.

So folks, go and get yourself checked if you have anything that looks odd. Moles that have changed color, size or shape need to be looked at. Same if one starts to itch or bleed (mine itched.). Any mole that looks different from the ones around it could be a problem. Catch it early and the prognosis is excellent.

And not only melanomas.   All forms of cancer... including one that us guys don't ever like to deal with or discuss. But 1% of all breast cancer diagnoses are for males.

You know what you have to do.... :)

Being basically a red head that grew up at the beach before there was sunscreen, my dermatologist and I are best buddies and Ii have SO much experience that I self-medicate on a constant basis. A lot of early skin cancers can now be force-fed, bloomed, and destroyed by prescription creams. The damn things blossom and die right before your eyes.

Also, sometimes a bad spot is the last one you would suspect. Go see a dermatologist.

I go 2 or 3 times a year and have had several chunks taken off, but the cream therapy avoids a LOT of that.
