MissionaryMike 1 Posted July 24, 2015 Hey, gang. As a toddler, I grew up in NJ playing with cops and robbers with my friends using my index finger and thumb. I would eventually graduate to plastic toy guns, but outgrew those and found myself nowhere to go. Having spent the first 32 years of my life in northern NJ, Bergen county mostly, I moved out to Missouri and enjoyed five God-blessed years there with my family. Having discovered the outdoors and hunting, I became a lover of archery and firearms. Needless to say, the last five years was a revelation. However, as of a month ago, I find myself back in NJ. Yes, I relocated back to the NJ, where my wife and kids (and me, too, I suppose) will enjoy living closer to most of our extended family. But it's not really as gun friendly as, oh, Missouri. I'm in the middle of processing my NJFID. All the requirements are in as of two days ago, and now I'm just crossing my fingers. I'm happy to know that NJ has a dedicated firearms forum like this one. I hope to be able to contribute when appropriate, but for now, I hope you don't mind if I pick your guys' and gals' brains about NJ specific stuff for a while. God bless, MM
ChrisJM981 924 Posted July 24, 2015 Greetings from Morris County. Parsippany isn't firearm friendly. Good luck and don't take any crap from them.
Lalo 13 Posted July 24, 2015 Welcome aboard. Keep track of dates, who you speak to and who the detective in charge of processing your paperwork is. Get his number and don't hesitate calling or even showing your face to follow-up. They took 11 months to process my FID.
WP22 1,558 Posted July 24, 2015 Welcome. And just as an FYI, NJ does NOT require you to register any firearms legally acquired while resident of another state. Just make sure they are NJ compliant and the magazines hold 15 or less rounds. If the police strongly sugests your to register them, tell them to go piss up a rope. Politely, of course. Howard 538 Posted July 24, 2015 Greetings from Morris County. Parsippany isn't firearm friendly. Good luck and don't take any crap from them. Welcome from a few towns over in Randolph. I agree with the above, as a friend there just got his recently after waiting over 9 months! Parsippany isn't driver friendly either, the cops there are used for massive revenue generation. Watch yourself on RT80 where they patrol as well as RT10 and other roads.
MissionaryMike 1 Posted July 24, 2015 Thanks for the warm welcome, as well as the advice. I was told that it should take about 4 weeks. Based on your guys' testimonies, that time frame doesn't sound promising.
Oakridgefirearms 224 Posted July 28, 2015 WELCOME!!!!!!!!! The two previous police chiefs in Parsippany were gun guys, not so sure about the current one. I had a guy in last week from Parsippany and he told me his PPP took 3 months.

When I was looking for towns to move to in Morris County, I cross referenced with the list of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and at the time the mayor of Parsippany was on it. I'm not sure of the current mayor, but keep on them.
MissionaryMike 1 Posted July 28, 2015 Would showing my face to remind them to keep things moving actually help me and the process quicken? I feel like they could get annoyed of me and hold things back just to frustrate me.
mipafox 438 Posted July 28, 2015 You're in Jersey now. They will sandbag you.
Kevin125 4,772 Posted July 29, 2015 If you have an email address for the LEO handling it, send him a quick note asking whatever you want to know. I doubt any reasonable person would react badly. And welcome to the forums.
MissionaryMike 1 Posted August 5, 2015 I initially stopped in at the PPD on July 7th to hand in my forms. I asked my references to do their part right away. They kindly did. The soonest date I could schedule to have my prints completed was July 20th. The next day, I went back in to the PPD to give them a copy of my passport. I received a call from the records dept. at the PPD yesterday (August 4th), leaving a voicemail that my ID was ready to be picked up. It took exactly 28 days for them to process my F.I.D. and P2Ps. By NJ standards, I understand that this was a very quick turnaround. Kudos to the gentleman that handled this for me. I think his name is Russ.
Lalo 13 Posted August 5, 2015 That is an awesome turnaround! Maybe NJ PD's will start following the law after the whole Carol Bowne fiasco.

ChrisJM981 924 Posted August 13, 2015 Holy cow, that's amazing. I'm in gun friendly territory, and I don't think I'll get that good of results, even on an address change.

But that was Warren County (Independence Twp). 30 days is the state requirement to get an initial response from the local PD (or NJSP barracks). It could be that it took the "County Adjustor's" office (where the mental health records are filed) that long to get back to the PPD.
