Any Walther P99 fans out there?

Recommended Posts

This year, I picked up a brand new Walther P99 Military Edition 9mm pistol. I've been lusting after this pistol for a while after seeing pictures of it on the internet. I finally found a sweet quick action model on gunbroker.com and took the plunge.

This is a wonderful and super-comfortable pistol that is a complete joy to shoot. The grip, which was the main thing that attracted me to this pistol, is very ergonomic and fits my hand like an old pair of broken in sneakers fit my feet. The trigger pull is slightly heavy for my taste but it is consistently dead accurate. I've put 850 rounds through it so far without a single malfunction or jam. I highly recommend this pistol.

I haven't taken a picture of mine yet, so here is one off the net as an example:

I love the look, feel and design of the gun, however only shot it in a 40S&W.

for that reason, I hated it. It would kickback like a mule and on a polymer pistol, did not like it much.

In a 9mm, I am sure it is a blast to shoot, however did not yet.

Now admit it, you got it because James Bond used one in the movies. :D

in all honesty, i never even knew about the pistol being featured in james bond films until after i bought it!

i'm not a fan of .40 caliber (or larger) pistols. i can't shoot them for as long as i can shoot a 9mm due to hand fatigue. 9mm's also have cheaper ammo which allows me to shoot more/get more range time.

I have owned three... and each time I get rid of it. I love the feel, the quality, the manual of arms makes sense for me since I am a southpaw, very stylish. I just cant hit a barn side with it. I dont know why, but they jump like the dickens in my paws. I love them.... Ijust cant shoot them. It realy burns my ass a little to be honest.

A buddy of mine bought one before S&W was the importer. Loved the pistol outside of 2 things.

1. Couldn't stand the hump inside the trigger guard. Made my trigger finger raw.

2. It recoils more than any other 9mm I've shot in the same class (G19, Sig P228/P229, HK USP9C).

Very accurate pistol though.

    • If you’re going to VA, buy 2 radios.  Program one for here and one for there.  If you guys are buying Baofeng radios do yourself a favor and get a tactical antenna for it,it’ll extend your reach.
    • Both our memories are a bit lacking. 3 bystanders were hit by NYPD bullets and 6 were hit by fragments at the Empire State Building shooting. The bullets later were determined to have passed through the bad guy as I said. He was not a big guy. The police fired 16 rds and 7 hit the bad guy.  Spray and pray?  I think not.  These officers fired until the threat was stopped and everyone is moving. Have you ever tried to hit a moving target whilst you're moving.  If you watch the video from where the police encounter him, the BG draws his gun from his bag, NYPD guys shoot, and the BG hit the ground is about 2 or 3 seconds.  The closest officer is maybe 12 feet or less.  The closest cover are those concrete flower pots.  If the officers chose to take cover before drawing the BG would have had a chance to shoot at least one officer. Know your target and beyond?  Agree 100%.  However, this by the Empire State Building at 9 am during the week.  There are bystanders and traffic in every direction.  The officers had a choice of doing what they did or letting the BG shoot them with his 1911 and shoot someone else. I think they made the right choice and the same one I would have made.  The officers exercised the best option in protecting themselves and the public. The first video is the police shooting.  The second is more detailed and gives you a lot of background information on the shooter. One thing this shows is if NYPD had to use fmj undoubtedly more bystanders would have been wounded perhaps killed.  NJ's hollowpoint law. only creates more danger to the public.
