revenger 473 Posted August 11, 2020 https://epic.org/amicus/fifth-amendment/andrews/ Looks like NJ is trampling the citizens 4th and 5th amendment rights now. We know that in our community that these anti-americans will never stop. For all the techies out there, Is there an APP that can be developed where you can assign a "self-destruct " passcode for your device . for example 1234 to open your phone access, and 4321 when entered will reset your device to factory. I suppose the same folks who say "you dont need a 30 rd mag" or "why are you afraid of registering your guns" will say "if your not doing anything wrong what do you have to hide" will like this decision. oldguysrule649 397 Posted August 11, 2020 I heard about this on 101.5 this morning. I find it very concerning. Also don’t forget that much of what you have on your phone may also be syncing up to the cloud depending how you have set your phone to backup and/or sync to the cloud (Apple, Google, Verizon, etc.). So even wiping your phone may or may not remove what is held in the cloud.

Even that doesn't matter. All those fun FREE apps you've downloaded on your phones have already sent ALL your personal data, personal information, texting history, financial information, emails, Internet searches, contact lists, geo locations, etc.... back to their respective motherships.. There's a reason those apps are FREE.... because YOU are the product being sold!

It is a tool, but most people know that if it is something we abuse... we will lose it fast. Regular travelers... I don’t think I’ve heard of a phone being searched. Possible terrorist ties, organized crime, or something along those lines... it is usually considered for obvious reasons. That being said, it is required to put it on Airplane mode prior to a search, specifically because our authority does not extend to Cloud services. If there is a loaded page that gives Cloud info, it is fair game... judging you aren’t going to be able to look further than file names or thumbnails (unless the owner downloaded it previously). Not too knowledgeable on what the protocol would be for Cloud access, if we could even get it with a warrant. Whether or not NJ views Cloud data as the same as what’s on the phone... no idea. I doubt it, due to the fact that the info isn’t located at a specific location. However, there are multiple people that I’ve seen have child porn on their phones due to What’sApp downloading attachments to the phone. Literally heard that excuse twice within a month. So, worrying about the Cloud isn’t as important as what people don’t notice is being downloaded on the phone, itself.
