I decided to do an address change on my FPID since I am going to splitting time here.  The only reason I'm doing so is that I can go to a shooting range.  I find it odd that something that has the word purchaser in it is required to go shooting these days.  I really feel it's an impediment to getting people to try the shooting sport put in place by the very people, us, that want more people involved.  I guess I'll chalk it up to "their range, their rules" however dumb I find it to be.  Nonetheless I applied through the NJ Portal for an address change on April 4th, 2020.  It's been now 5 months and still no FPID.  It's just ridiculous and I have to say the Rumson PD has been very pleasant to deal with even though I'm not getting what I want.  I thought this process was supposed to be capped at 30 days?  I also find it ridiculous that when applying you can choose:  Initial, Change of Address, Replacement but it doesn't matter it's all the same stupid process other than the finger printing requirement.  Honestly for a change or replacement you should just go down and have them type you up a new one but good 'ol NJ.

I may speak to the mayor but how have other folks gotten around this?  I hate to get litigious but I'm at the point where, while I'm only here part time, I'm gonna start using some of my hard earned cash, well libs don't think I earned it,  to throw behind pretty much any reasonable NJ 2a related lawsuit.

I'm also going to have a couple data scientists that work for me do a study on crime rates pre and post mag capacity reduction to scientifically flush out what we already no--it didn't do anything.

This is an old story that runs in an endless loop.

The majority politicians entrenched in Trenton don't care about logic, facts or statistics. They hate the concept of armed civilians and until they're removed from office they will do their best to keep civilians from acquiring, possessing and especially using firearms for lawful purposes.

And the courts in NJ are completely on the side of government. That's why the '30 day cap' is an illusion.

So don't waste your money here. at least not arguing with Trenton. Spend it to oust the appropriate people, or at the national level to avoid really damaging federal legislation that will hamstring every state.

Well, at least hamstring those who feel obligated to comply.

Did you get your background check part finished from the state?  Any emails regarding that?  You confirmed your references submitted and it confirmed via FARS right?

Any range that requires a FID is most likely for liability purposes for insurance.  Is it a public range or private?

There have been lawsuits, but it's come back with "the 30 day law is really just a suggestion and doesn't actually have to be followed".

The actual legal case was Adler v Livak - back in 1998.

Four to five months is about the time it takes for any approved paperwork to get back to me.....and I deal with a state police barracks.  The Rumson Police Department is the agency you have to deal with on this issue.   ("If your question pertains to an application submitted to a municipal Police Department, please contact them for information and assistance.  Your municipal Police Department is the only agency that can update, modify or approve your application.")  https://www.njsp.org/firearms/index.shtml.  Next, I would try speaking to the mayor if you think he (or she) might be sympathetic to your cause.  If that doesn't work, try your congressional representative.

I firmly think they'll get it done.  I spoke to the patrolman in charge and he said call him tomorrow and if he doesn't have it he'll make one.  He sees it's approved.  They're actually good guys and don't want to go after them.

I've had a reasonably good run in this life and have committed what I feel good about to St Judes Children's hospital for the rest of my life and into death.  Now I wanna use some of it to liberate my people here.

Just status update, right?  Not Application Approved?

So April 4th -> August 2nd just for the State side?!

Sounds like it's with the township now.  Mine said 6-8 weeks from the point that they get it... Not sure how bad Rumson is.

This what the email said, perhaps I'm confused:

Your application for a New Jersey Firearm Purchaser Identification Card and/or Permit to Purchase a Handgun(s) has been approved by the issuing authority. The physical card/permit must be obtained at your issuing police department (as indicated on your application).

Please be aware that to obtain this card/permit you must bring proof of identity (Picture ID with Name and Date of Birth) to the issuing police department.

That means it should be ready.  Have you called your PD?

Yes they cannot find it.  That's why the one guy said give me a few days or I'll just make you one.  It seems silly change of address or replacement takes the same path as initial.  Actually the entire thing is just stupid.

When I did a change of address before I left NJ it only took 3 days, there is no good reason for yours to take as long as it has.

please keep us updated. I just recently did a change of address (August 15) and the last email I got was "criminal history check completed". I'm hoping it doesn't take 5 months just for a change of address. I saw a post on reddit that said they don't issue cards anymore for a change of address, you just get a letter.
