  1. Just wanted to give a shout out to Shooters in LEHT. I have bought a couple of guns there now, mostly recently my beloved Beretta 1301 Tactical a few months ago. Their inventory is incredible, they have lots of friendly people behind the counters, and their prices are fair. If you are anywhere near them, I would recommend them highly.
  2. Both are in excellent condition. Both have enhanced metal safeties. The one with the 20” barrel (above) has a Hi-Vis front bead sight and a swivel swing attachment. The other with an 18.5” barrel has a breacher choke and a side saddle shell carrier. Asking $350 each, or take both for $675. I’m in Wayne, willing to travel a bit to meet you at the FFl of your choice. Also down in Seaside Park sometimes, so Ocean County could be OK as well. Feel free to pm me for further details or any questions. First to post “I’ll take it,” gets the sale.
  3. This is the first I've heard of them. What class or classes are you considering taking?
  4. Finally got to run my Beretta 1301 Tactical through a class last Sunday, 12/6 at Gun for Hire's Urban Shotgun 1. I was going to post an AAR, but my notes would have been similar to those from Urban Carbine 2 that I took recently. It was interesting to note that in a class of seven (a good turnout for a shotgun class), there were four of us with Beretta 1301's. There was also a Benelli M4, for a total of five semiautos. (The other two were a 590 A1 and a classic 870.) Mine is equipped with a Vickers sling, a Sig Romeo 5 red dot optic, and velcro tape for attaching shotgun shell cards. I have noted how GFH continues to find top-notch instructors from LE and the military. Our lead instructor for US1 was Vlad, who trains police, and has trained with Spec ops people. With the assistant instructor, Doug, the class was informative, safe, and most of all fun. People on this board will sometimes complain about the cost of GFH classes, but for returning students, they are a bargain. Even at full price, for the quality of instruction and the fact that training with them does not require a long drive or a plane trip, IMHO they are well worth it.
  5. With Democrats firmly in control of Trenton, I have no doubt that they will ram whatever anti-2A legislation they want down our throats (as we say in polite company). We can kick and scream, and tell them all how unfair it is, but the reality is that they will do what they want and we are powerless to stop them. I know people will argue that we need to stay here and fight, but the only viable solution I see is to flee this hellhole of a state.
  6. It is my decidedly non-professional understanding that Type 2 Diabetes is largely caused by diet and lifestyle. It is a huge problem in our society, as we approach 10% of our population being affected. I'll confess to not having watched the videos, but it's good to see important information like that getting out.
  7. Admittedly, I'm not the most experienced in the world, but I've never seen or heard of that. I never would have thought to check that, but yes, I guess you would have discovered it upon disassembly. BTW, you probably know this, but for disassembly, cleaning, lube, and reassembly, You Tube is invaluable.
  8. As was noted earlier in this thread, you need reverse bifocals, with the readers on the top of the lens so you can see them when you take a shooting position. See my post above for a link.
  9. I'm pretty sure that for Utah you need to take their own class.
  10. Call Mossberg for help. As much of a pain as it is, consider sending it back for them to look at.
  11. Have no idea why I got the dreaded double post.
  12. I have a couple of them. One has two barrels, a 28" for shooting clays (and presumably, hunting), and an 18.5" for HD. The other is more tactical looking, with an 18.5" barrel, camo finish, and a breacher choke. I've run both of them fairly hard, through training classes and such, and I can't recall ever having a malfunction. The latter is my go to for HD. As Krdshrk notes, they do need to be disassembled and cleaned every 200-300 rounds, but it's not really a big deal. If you don't mind spending twice as much, the Beretta 1301 Tactical is great. But you won't go wrong with the 930.
  13. Here's an interesting discussion of this from The Federalist this morning: https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/08/6-things-we-just-learned-about-the-supreme-courts-gun-rights-case/ I particularly liked the part where NYS was trying to make the case that it was safer to have people carrying firearms in less populated areas than in denser areas, to which Justice Roberts quipped, "How many people get mugged in the woods?"
  14. My wife and I recently purchased a condo in Jupiter, Florida, and we have started spending some time there. As luck would have it, our condo came with a gun safe! It is currently empty, except for my CCW Springfield XD 9mm subcompact, which I am now able to leave down there to avoid the minor inconvenience of traveling with it. I'm planning on purchasing an AR, possibly a real Colt, an AK (Zastava ZPAP M70), and a 9mm carbine. I have an old Ruger Police Carbine and a Keltec Sub2000 in NJ. I was considering the Evo Scorpion, but have heard it might not be so great. I'm not opposed to the newer Ruger PCC. Anyone have a pistol caliber carbine that they really like? I would love to hear people's recommendations.
  15. I see young people at the gym working out, lugging backpacks around with them. To tell you the truth, it makes me a little nervous.
  16. OK, I had to look that one up. Wouldn't that be dangerous, if you fired one round and didn't want to fire a second? Is there a way to decock it or something if you don't want to fire another round?

    Ruger Mini-14

Just to follow up on this, I called Ruger and explained what was happening. They immediately sent out a new extractor, spring, and plunger. Got them just a few days later. I disassembled the bolt (thanks You Tube) and found a broken extractor spring. Replaced all the parts, and tested it out yesterday. Happy to report that it now seems to be running flawlessly. BTW, it's a little scary to find that a problem with a tiny spring can disable an entire firearm.
  18. You can buy Heritage Arms revolvers new for around $150 and sell them back for $200. Sounds like an opportunity!
  19. Ditto here. Had to do the same thing, but it was pretty quick, and I did not need a new set of fingerprints.
  20. Curious at what distance people zero their AK's. Unlike the AR, where a 50/200 zero is very popular, the 7.62 projectile drops like a rock past 200 yards. I have mine currently zeroed at 50 yards, but I'm think of switching to a 25 yard zero. That zero distance puts the POI 2-4" high at 50-150 yards, then is back to zero at 200. Practical considerations include not being able to use steel core ammo at indoor range like GFH, and not being able to shoot closer than 50 yards at Cherry Ridge. I believe the answer to that would be to just adjust POI to be 2" high at 50 yards. Other than playing around at the range, there's probably not much chance of having to shoot at greater than 200 yards in real life. Any thoughts?
  21. Two thoughts for you: 1. Gun for Hire has a huge selection of rental guns. You can see what they have available on their website: www.Gunforhire.com 2. I have had a Stag Arms Model 2 for almost ten years, and it has been flawless. I've run it through relatively high intensity training classes on many occasions, and can't remember ever having an issue with it.
  22. Nice to enjoy some of the best things in life together: Family, friends, and guns.

    Ruger Mini-14

Hate to start a new thread for this. Does anyone have ejection issues with their Mini 14? It has always been less than reliable, but now I'm having an FTE once or twice a mag. Thought perhaps it was related to unreliable mags, but it has become clear that the double feeds occur because the casing in the chamber is not being ejected. Guess I'm going to have to get in touch with Ruger, but just curious to see if anyone has any suggestions?
  24. Good point. My situation is the latter. No kids in the house, my wife and me in our bedroom suite. Plan is to take cover in our room, call 911, yell to the perp(s) that we are armed, the police are on the way, get out. BTW, as I'm sure you know, it's entirely possible to move around the house (if you really needed to) with a shotgun, using CQB techniques where the stock is pulled in close. But your point about having a hand free with a handgun is valid.
  25. To each his own, but I would respectfully disagree with you. Certainly, a handgun is OK for home defense, particularly for those disciplined enough to carry one in a holster at all times. But a shotgun is a devastating fight stopper. With only a bare minimum of 6+1 rounds, one would be equipped to handle all but an army of home invaders without needing to reload. A few rounds in a shell carrier would provide additional firepower in the event of a worst case scenario. The difference in capacity is deceptive, because a shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot delivers 9 rounds with a single pull of the trigger. So while I have both available, if I get the chance, I'm going for the shotgun.
