  1. I like talking about guns, but I avoid the subject with my immediate neighbors unless I have an idea about where they stand. I have young kids and so do most of the neighbors. I haven't introduced guns to my kids yet. My son is 4 now and he gets exposure to the gun subject whether I like it or not. We talk about guns, but I have not displayed any of mine to him yet. My wife has been tolerant, but got more interested when her close friend started dating a prison guard and went to the range with him.
  2. It shall be unlawful for any person to assemble from imported parts any semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun which is identical to any rifle or shotgun prohibited from importation under section 925(d)(3) of this chapter as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes except that this subsection shall not apply to-- (1) the assembly of any such rifle or shotgun for sale or distribution by a licensed manufacturer to the United States or any department or agency thereof or to any State or any department, agency, or political subdivision thereof; or (2) the assembly of any such rifle or shotgun for the purposes of testing or experimentation authorized by the Attorney General. The key word is "assemble", not possession of such a rifle. I don't believe that anyone has ever been charged with possession of a non-compliant rifle. Use your Google-Fu; there is plenty to read out there.
  3. The biggest misunderstanding is that 922r applies only to the manufacturer at the time of manufacture, and not to possession later on.
  4. Got one for $100 at Dick's a while ago, love it. Got my Marksman at Appleseed with it. I put Tech Sight peeps on it, very nice.
  5. I thought the hardest part was drilling and tapping the turnion for the bullet guide. The trunion is very hard and if you work too fast an/or don't clean the shavings as you go along, it becomes very easy to snap a bit off in your trunion. That would not be fun to repair. Otherwise, the conversion is pretty simple.
  6. I think that having a Saiga that is not reliant on using a mag with US made parts is worth something, so I think that the Tapco piston is good to have.
  7. Before you order a scope from SWFA, be sure to call and be certan that they have it in stock. Their website does not show their currrent inventory, and you might find yourself waiting for an item. They are a good company but that is one problem with dealing with them. I think the SWFA brand scopes are a great value.
  8. I don't know if any of you frequent the HK Pro forum, but the concensus there is that HK CS has improved remarkably and is not the same CS that many people came to know and rag on years back. They are speaking about HK USA located in Georgia. Perhaps HK in Germany doesn't think too much of the US civilian market, but HK USA cares and does a better job now.
  9. They will pull it together. They still produce a product that is miles above the competition. HK haters relish in this news but have no understanding of how their business operates and how German governmental policy effects their cash flow.
  10. As the saying goes, " A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work".
  11. If you are serious about your tuna fishing, you should consider making a road trip to NC where the Gulf Stream is right off of the coast. Here in Jersey you will have to expend a lot of fuel and time just getting to the Gulf Stream, where you'll find the tuna following the baitfish in the warm rich waters and be more likely to get your money's worth of tuna on board. Good luck, guys!
  12. Which spring broke? Numrich has had most of the springs, unless they are sold out now. HkParts.net also carries a number of P7 parts. I have my own stock of parts and have not been looking at availability lately. I just went to Numrich and they had most springs in stock. If you call and pick up their daily shipping code, $$5 of shipping is free.
  13. I have a S&W pre-29 and it is an amazing revolver with a super smooth trigger pull. That said, I recently purchased a Ruger Redhawk that is an outstanding shooter that is built like a tank. The S&W trigger is definitely nicer, but the cost was considerably higher. With a DIY trigger job on my Redhawk that included a lighter spring, trigger and hammer shims, and smoothing the internal casting roughness has yielded an incredible SA pull and an improved DA pull also, but it is still not as sweet as the DA of the S&W trigger. The Ruger is a better value for the money, but if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, then buy a S&W.
  14. I use a +3 Remington extension that came on my 870 model #25077 on my HD shotgun.
  15. I sold a Remington 700 on GunBroker, and got just what I wanted for it. The seller pays the shipping and FFL fees, and pays you in certified funds before you ship. It is a pretty low risk transaction. Selling face to face to a member of this forum could be another way to go.
  16. Look at the damage that Sandy caused pimarily because of all the people living close to the sea shore. People want the benefits of living in a desirable location near the shore, but want the government to assume the risk, ie, pay the price of rebuilding. Hurricanes will happen again, sure as the sun rises and sets everyday. Who knows when the next big one will come rolling in; it could be years or next month...
  17. I think that the high New Jersey numbers reflect the greater population living along the shore who would be vulnerable to coastal flooding from tsunamis and hurricanes.
  18. I have a handful of 12 rd mags, but at $25, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a few more, even with the flat floorplates. I've invested in some 10 rd mags lately since when Christie's gone from office, our existing 15 rd mag limit will be departing soon also.
  19. That's likely a case where if it sounds too good to be true, than it probably is... Nice find, but I doubt that they will offer them again at that price. I looked just now and found the 12 round USP mags in stock and available for $62 each, which is about right.
  20. My suggestion: a Ruger SP-101
  21. Fox News reported this tragedy this morning, and added that in New Jersey, no one younger than 18 is allowed to shoot a firearm on a range. I guess they just forgot to add "without parental supervision".
  22. How old must my child be to shoot a .22 at the range? Are there NJ laws that impose age limits?
  23. Congratulations! How does it make you feel about your 10 years of effort when others think that they can sleeze across our borders and get citizenship? It sucks, doesn't it! My hat is off you you for your deserving reward. Nice choice of pistol, by the way!
  24. Correct, you may not ship primers without being a certified hazardous material shipper. They are explosives and you should have investigated your ability to ship them before listing them. You could sell them locally without issue.
