If I understand the layout correctly, theres a drainage basin behind the pistol range. Why not throw a hose up over/in between the berms and use a gas powered pump to launch the majority of the current water out of the ranges themselves, hopefully giving them a chance to dry out a bit? When I went Thurs, the bottom of the hill in front of the range houses (where it does frequently get wet and messy) was significantly worse than normal. Someone had taken the target backers out of the ranges and placed them every few feet to step on.

The 50 yard range, in my opinion, is the worse shape of them all. This was when I went on Thursday around noon. That's inches deep.

The lack of being able to bring guests is the only reason I didn't look more into Telco before I got my SJSC membership a few years ago. I also hear they're is a wait to apply for them.

I went thurs, and shot on the 50 yard range. There was water from where the concrete ended all the way to the targets. You literally had to walk on a portion of the side berm or bring a kayak. This will be my 3rd year at sjsc. It would always get mushy at the bottom of the hill behind the shooting houses, but I dont remember the actual ranges getting this bad. It's so bad, it honestly surprises me that they dont bring a pump out and get at least some of the water out of there.

I had to answer yes to #26 when I applied also, as I had seen a psychiatrist a couple times in grade school and early high school for ADHD. Detectives said it could be any psychiatrist who writes the letter, but they prefer the original one the applicant went to. I lucked out and my original guy was still working (which still seems like a miracle to me, cuz he seemed to be in his 80's when I was around 12, and at the time of applying it must've been almost 10-15 years later), and agreed to see me for a meeting and would write the letter for me. Hopefully things work out for you. Don't give up cuz of a bump or two in the process, that's what NJ wants you to do.

not to hijack this, but does anyone know what's going on with their actual pistol range? it's been closed for close to a year now if I'm not mistaken

I like how it goes through 2 large side cut chambers BEFORE it would hit what causes it to be considered a flash hider. You know... cuz all the burning powder and gas wont exit those openings and continue to the hider. lol. I hate to say it, but a lot of manufacturers seem to like to use buzzwords to make their product seem like more than it is in hopes it tickles a broader group of potential buyers fancies. Everything seems to be a "flash hiding muzzle brake" or something of the like, even though its essentially just a FH or brake. That's fine for most states, but that screws us here in NJ, cuz all a prosecutor needs to do in court is point to a printed ad calling it a flash hider. Would it ever come to that? Probably not. But I'm not risking my job, rights, and literal freedom on probably. Just label it what it is designed to do more: be a muzzle brake or flash hider. Went on a little rant there, sorry. lol and yes, I'm aware there are flash hiders that are cut to also aid in being a muzzle brake, this (imo) isn't one of them,

Been looking at Japanese Arisakas lately and think I may pick one up off gunbroker. The question becomes, do I want one with a mum, one that's been scratched off, or one that's defaced but you can still see the mum? Been thinking about this for a couple days now, and can't decide. What's everyone else's thoughts on this? If you were going to pick one up, which would it be and why?

To own and keep in your home as a novelty, or carry around with you? lol

I do this ALL THE GODDAMN TIME when I disassemble/assemble ARs. I always take a pair of needlenose and grabbing one of the bolt teeth through the ejection port and pulling toward the chamber. As long as I don't throw that charging handle back so the carrier goes ALL the way back in the tube, usually I can fish it out.

These 2 statements have me confused, did you mean you had it from before you lived in NJ? Regardless, if you're confident of your handiness, buy the faux can, drill and pin it yourself, take it to a local auto body and pay them $10 to put a dot of weld over the pin. Then shave it down and hit it with some touchup paint.

If you don't mind me asking, what was it you were getting done? Something that is complex, or something like compliance work that should be fairly quick and easy?

This kinda thing also just happened semi recently in another state, when a guy thought it was a good idea to hit a round that he found on his lawn with a hammer. It ignited, went off, and ended up hitting him with enough force that it pierced his skin. It also happened in 2007, when a teenager accidentally shot himself in the face by hitting a round with a hammer. The force is significantly less than when it has a barrel to direct the pressures, but can still potentially cause injury or death. A couple of my coworkers insist they witnessed a 9mm round roll off one of the desks at work while they were issuing an officer a weapon, land perfectly on its primer causing it to go off, and penetrate the drywall next to the desk a couple inches off the ground. There's still a hole there, whether or not that's actually what it's from, I don't know.

There was a vendor on here that sells (or at least used to) these custom made double sided 15 round magazines. I can't seem to find who it was or if they still sell them. Anyone remember who that was that sold them perchance??

For cerakote, look at Backwoods Custom Coatings, Savage Cerakote, or Tier 1. I've personally used Backwoods multiple times, and have had zero problems with him. Not everyone here shares my view on him. I've also heard great things about Savage and T1. If you go Duracoat, I vote using the aerosol. You remove all oil and dirt w/ supplied degreaser, push a button on the bottom of the can so it mixes the hardener into the can, shake a few mins, and spray. I used it to redo an old break action single barrel shotgun I picked up from a gun shop in the south. It came out pretty good. As Son of Sam said, it dries enough to not smudge in 20 mins, dries enough to pick up and handle within 24 hrs, 48 hrs it can handle light abuse, and only gets stronger from there until it hits the completely cured time. The can is unusable within about 24 hrs, so if you plan on doing multiple things, make sure you're ready to do them all at once. I plan on getting a can of OD for a handgun frame, and then I'm going to start coating random things I'm bored with (ie: my phone case, pocket knives, ect.).

I see the lands and grooves, they're there. If I remember when I get home, I'll post a pic. Kinda hard to see it's a 1x8, and I tried everything from PMC X-tac to Rem .223 to green tips. I thought the scope was the issue initially, but I switched both the mount (now a Burris PEPR) and the scope (now a Nikon Buckmaster 2), lapped the mount rings and blue locktite-d everything down, still getting garbage groups. I literally just put a new barrel on it this morning (a 18" stainless 1x8 twist match .223 wylde barrel that is guaranteed to shoot sub 1 moa, or my money back) and plan to go shoot it Sat morning before work to test it. Being that the barrel was essentially the last thing to try replacing, we shall see how it goes.

It would still be a rifle, just without a stock. Much like a shotgun with just a pistol grip is still a shotgun, the AK rifle is still an AK rifle because it was originally manufactured to have a stock attached. If your AK is over 26" total w/o the buttstock, and at least 16" barrel length, you don't have to permanently attach a mag, as it's still legally a long gun. Only if you shorten the barrel past the 16" and/or shorten overall length past 26" (while not having a stock, otherwise it's a SBR) do you need to permanently attach the mag to keep it from becoming a semi-auto "assault" pistol.
