  1. I believe business owners have the right to run their business any way they choose. If they require you to stand on your head and fart the theme to the Simpson's before you can hold a gun, that's fine with me. But...unless the shady looking dude behind you has lost his constitutional rights through due process, I think he gets to not only hold a gun but keep and bear one uninfringed, that means without having to have an FID, no matter how shady he may look. But that's just me.
  2. I've never been to a gun shop that asked for any ID to handle a firearm. I guess it's different in South Jersey.
  3. I was there 2 weeks ago when the opened on a Friday morning. Lots of customers but not real busy. There was already a 30 minute wait at the gun counter. Ammo shelves were well stocked but prices were higher than I can get on the internet so I skipped ammo.
  4. Where? I have never been asked for my FID until I was ready to buy and I've been to a lot of gun shops.
  5. I've owned two. Both good guns, no issues. The finish was good on both but fit between parts was not perfect - good enough for me - but not perfect. For the $200 in savings a Taurus typically gives you over the comparable gun made by someone else, I would buy a Taurus again. If you are the kind of person that is satisfied with a Chevrolet and doesn't need a Mercedes, Taurus might be right for you.
  6. Me too. My reason: I was an engineering student in the late 1980's. I had a project that involved vertical take off and landing and I became familiar with what was the state of the art in VTOL at the time. VTOL simply was not perfected enough in 1969 to be able to work flawlessly on the moon where we didn't know much about the surface. Rockets pushing against a soft surface are a lot different than pushing against a solid surface (close to the ground) and the landing location was a crap shoot - we didn't know what to expect ahead of time. And even at 1/6 the gravity of earth, the luner lander could not have carried enough fuel to escape the lunar gravity. After this project, a bunch of us enginerds were sitting in a dorm watching TV and footage of the liftoff from the surface was shown. We pretty much yelled in unision: "No f'n way" and we were all kind of decided that it must have been a hoax.
  7. Definitely one of the cooler things I have seen. Perfect night for it. Saw it come up over the horizon, head east, saw the second stage fire and the first stage fall away. It left a huge vapor trail that we could see clearly in the starlight. Amazing considering I'm 100 miles away and was probably 200+ miles away when stage 2 fired.
  8. mcmaster.com they have it all, easy to order with a cc and you usually get it next day. I order something from them several times a week.
  9. All I'm familiar with is the cord. It could be tied in a knot but not all knots would hold because it was not quite as flexible as cotton or nylon rope but it was close. It almost had the feeling of a wire running through the cord sort of like a pipe cleaner.
  10. I have that "I'm from NJ so we are worse than PA" mentality.
  11. We used to use spectra cord for climbing. cord that was similar to parachute cord in diameter had to be cut with wire cutters.
  12. Don't notch the joist. You can drill as long as you don't get into the upper or lower 1/3 but you can't notch, it kills the strength. You need the long bend under the tub for the stopper assemply. If you go with a toe stopper (pop up type), you can do a shorter bend and end up coming through the joists instead of under them.
  13. Unless we're choosing to either side with the sunnis or shiias, we should not be there. The stupidest place to stand in a gun fight is in the middle.
  14. Nothing in NJ constitutes justifiable need unless you're working as an armed guard. Then your permit limits you to carry on the job only. According to the AG's supplimental brief in the Pisczatoski case, NJ has issued between 500 and 800 permits each year for the last 10 years. That's one one hundredth of one percent of NJ residents. PA issues CCW permits to just over 8% of PA residents and remember, PA is a state that allows open carry without a permit (except for in philly).
  15. No. The first part of the law posted by ryan_j lists the things that can't be possessed in NJ - the prohibitions. One of those things is a rifle or shotgun unless you have an FID card. The second part posted by Grapeshot lists the exceptions to the prohibitions. and tells you how you must transport if you're transporting under an exception or under the prohibitions. So, you can't possess a rifle or shotgun unless you have an FID is listed before the exceptions so it's allowed, even if you don't fall into one of the exceptions, like to and from the range. But you still must transport under the rules of section g: "All weapons being transported under paragraph (2) of subsection b., subsection e., or paragraph (1) or (3) of subsection f. of this section shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported, and in the course of travel shall include only such deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances.” Older FID cards had a statement on them that the possessor of this card is lawfully allowed to transport rifles and shotguns. It's not on the newer cards.
  16. What's the usual SCOTUS schedule. How quickly do they typically accept or deny hearing a case and then, how long does it typically take to be heard?
  17. I was pulled over for speeding in PA a few months ago after 20+ years without being pulled over for anything. I was speeding, no question. Cop wrote me a ticket for failing to obey a posted sign. Saved me points on my license and insurance increases. I thanked him and shook his hand.
  18. I'm so looking forward to getting out of NJ and into America. We're worried about taking a photo of our gun, most likely on our own property, because it's in a car. Sad. The other day, I found spent shells in the windshield wiper wells on my truck hood from when I used my truck door as a bench rest as I shot from my front seat. It's good to be in South Jersey. Take that NJ!
  19. Now back to our regularly scheduled topic: NJSA 39:4-215 Any person who fails to obey the directions of a police officer or fails to obey the directional signals or signs provided hereunder shall be subject to a fine of not more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) or imprisonment for ten days in jail, or both "Failure to obey a posted sign"
  20. Absolutely they were extremists until the moment they won the war, then their crazy ideas became a new nation. We were founded by extremists and I'm proud to be one.
  21. A metal detector, fanny pack, and a doctor who t-shirt and you can't keep the ladies away.
  22. If she's determined to sell it, put it on gunbroker.com. With people competing, she'll get a fair price.
  23. MOA stands for "minutes of angle" Each degree of an angle (360 off them in a circle) is further divided into 60 minutes. It just so happens that an angle of one minute is almost exactly 1" high at 100 yards (actually 1.07"). So at 100 yards, a gun that shoots 1/2 MOA will shoot groups that are within 1/2" at 100 yards, 1" at 200 yards, 2" at 400 yards, etc. Scopes often have additional lines or dots that are 1 MOA apart. If you know your bullet drop at 200 yds is 2MOA, you just move your point of aim to the 2MOA line under the regular cross hairs. Because MOA works out to nice easy numbers to work with it's become the common unit of measure for long range shooting. The other is mil-dot which uses milliradians to measure angles instead of minutes.
  24. Was the gun purchased after NJ's de facto registration program (permits to purchase handguns) or before. If after, the gun was purchased by the husband and belongs to him. The law does not make provision for transfers between couples without permits. If before: The husband and wife purchased the handgun out of their collective money. I'd say he left and left her gun behind. Of course, this is just my opinion.
