  1. You can't beat this state for election irregularities. Poll workers in Morris Township were directing republican voters to use a different voting machine than the one used by the democrats. http://www.nj.com/morris/index.ssf/2015/11/nj_poll_workers_directed_voters_to_democrat_gop_vo.html#incart_2box_
  2. But who would buy it above market value?
  3. I still think it was overkill scrambling two F16's. I believe the operating costs for those are on the order of $25K/hour, each, and while the pilots do need flights to maintain currency, this wasn't a useful training mission. The military has advanced trainers, King Airs, etc. with all of the electronic capabilities described; I can't imagine a need for refueling when they could circle for hours, and the flight path never took them more than 15 minutes from an airport. As for #4, sure, the electronics are likely highly classified, but against what armed threats might they need guns and missiles that far into US airspace? #6 is interesting...did they do that? I honestly don't know, but I'm having trouble picturing it as having more than a momentary effect.
  4. So, our defense system took down a good chunk of the power grid and snarled the airspace over major metropolitan areas? Any number of terrorist organizations dream of someday being that effective.
  5. It is being discussed a lot on the pilot boards. Pilots hated this thing when it was tethered; even more now that it's loose with 6700' of 1" cable hanging below it. Can't wait for it to get low enough to start dragging across power lines. The tethered blimp program was viewed as a $2.7 billion boondoggle even before this. And only the federal government would dispatch two F16s to keep an eye on its whereabouts. The private sector would have known that's a job for a local traffic reporter in a Cessna.
  6. I think the landing fees for a light plane at JFK, EWR, and LGA are just $25 each after 10 pm; always thought it would be fun to fly the circuit and do a touch-and-go at each one. Of course if you want to taxi in to the ramp, park, disembark or take on a passenger or fuel...it gets crazy expensive.
  7. Because that's a sustainable business model...
  8. This gets debated a lot on the pilot boards, and the discussions always read like the transport discussions here. Basically, yeah, it's generally legal, but antigun states will still do their best to make an example out of you if they get the opportunity.
  9. I'll be willing to concede that the technology is reliable when the Secret Service detail protecting the POTUS Starts using it.
  10. The Browning Crossover Target gets great reviews as an approach to a do-everything target gun.
  11. I count three, though I think the account is largely fictional.
  12. Ask 'em! They might agree to let you do it on a slow weekday if you commit to spending some amount of money in range time in return.
  13. Didn't watch the show, but in that time slot the Tenafly club put on a zombie-themed match for their Sunday night action pistol event. Four stages, two shot in near darkness but for strobes and black lights, 8 movers, a zombie shoot through, and a fog machine...it was interesting.
  14. That's the best plan, but some brands, at least, will keep for a very long time. In 2013 when I couldn't find my usual CCI Standard Velocity anywhere, I dusted off my last stock of Remington Standard Velocity and Winchester T22--both dated 1978, and moved with me 6 times through 4 states--and shot a full season in my local bullseye league. No issues whatsoever, and my scores were solidly in the Master class, with a few forays into High Master territory. And that's as good as I can do with fresh ammo...
  15. Not sure I follow. I don't think there is a difference in shelf life between rim fire and center fire ammo. Both keep for decades if stored properly.
  16. Our power was out for 9 days. I wonder how much faster it could have been restored if the power company didn't have to waste all that time going house to house trying to figure out which idiots were back feeding the grid with their bubba'd generator hookups? Also, it's one thing to confirm a line is dead--of course the lineman will do that before starting work. The problem lies with the aforementioned idiots, any of whom might start back feeding the line while the repair work is in progress.
  17. Cleanest, yes. Clean enough for it not to be a concern, maybe not. Especially as the generator gets some hours on it and the fuel/air mix drifts out of spec. Home generators don't see a whole lot of maintenance and emissions testing... And it's CO that you want to be most concerned about. Not that CO2 isn't also a concern, but it's orders of magnitude less important.
  18. 15 minutes to Riverdale or North Jersey Clay Target Club. 45 minutes to Cherry Ridge or Somerset. Yes, it's a lot of clubs-but I can't get all of the range features I want with fewer, unless I drive much further...and then I'd have less time for shooting.
  19. Check out CRRC in Princeton Junction. I was very happy with the club when I lived in Mercer County. I'd still be a member if I hadn't moved out of the area.
  20. 1: Runs generator to keep beer fridge cold. 2: Powers car, to make additional beer runs.
  21. Seems like a lot of trouble just to avoid setting up your spotting scope.
  22. Do a search (or create an account and post the question) on the trapshooters.com forum. Your question gets asked (and answered) there a lot. I know I've seen recommendations for gunsmiths/stock makers in PA (I don't recall the names); not sure if I've seen any in NJ come up.
  23. Well, it is a list of the 10 best semi-autos...
  24. True. When dealing with gun owners, most NJ elected officials choose to use a different finger.
  25. On a progressive press, the return on my time is really quite good. It's only when I have to reload on a single stage press that I have to stop thinking about what my time is worth.
