  1. If it was pre-COVID and in the general direction of where you were already planning to travel I'd say that you should definitely stop in. Unfortunately in the current environment it might be a lot of people trying to unload their excess garbage for a LOT of money. You'll likely still find some "decent" deals. Looks like admission is only $10
  2. Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of them. Let us know how they look.load when you get them.
  3. Excellent choices!!! Did you get a heads-up about the items in advance, or did you just hit the gun store on a lucky day?
  4. The old PD might not issue the FID to you if you don't have a matching DL, so stsrting over might be the most direct path.
  5. According to their FAQ they will ship to NJ, and the model with a "brace" doesn't count as an SBR, so theoretically you're good to go...until the ATF changes their mind again. https://caagearup.com/pages/faqs-page/ Do you ship to California, New York, and New Jersey? Yes, we do ship to California, New York, and New Jersey the Non-NFA products. It’s up to the buyer to research their state and local laws, as they may change frequently.
  6. That could be part of it. I think a lot of government organizations had some "oh shit" moments when they realized that individual citizens could (and would) actually stop rioting and pillaging with their firearms.
  7. Fine. You're arguing Just to "be right" at this point. Of course you have to practice PROPER mechanics and fundamentals. Nobody suggested that shitty practice on a .22 would in any way be a good thing. The question - "Would it be reasonable to learn to shoot with proficiency on a 22LR pistol and will those skill transfer readily when switching to a 9mm?" MANY people on the forum - Yes. Developing strong mechanics on the .22 will be transferable to other calibers. raz-0 - No. If you're lazy and do bad things practicing on a .22 something, something, something...
  8. I don't think anyone would argue that recoil and noise are significant factors to account for and adjust to when moving from rimfire to centerfire. I think what most (including me) are saying is those things are not part of the mechanics you practice/learn when shooting a .22. Things like stance, grip, sight alignment, breathing, trigger control, etc, etc, can be the same regardless of the pistol you have in your hand. There's no single "9mm semi", "357 revolver", or ".22 pistol". There are many and varied versions of all of them. You have to apply your proper mechanics each time you pick up a new gun, but you don't teach yourself new mechanics each time. If you did you'd need classes on "How to shoot a Glock 17", "How to Shoot a Glock 19", "How to shoot a Sig P365", etc, etc.
  9. Good discussion. I agree with Rutgers. Mechanics shouldn't change. If Shooter A is putting 10 shot groups into a 1 inch circle all-day at 25 yards then he's likely developing sound mechanics. Give Shooter A a Glock 17 for the first time and there will be a learning curve to adjust to recoil, noise, new grip, new sights, etc., but mechanics shouldn't change. I think you're spot-on about self taught/directed people learning (and trying to unlearn) bad habits...
  10. I agree with both of you. The law about SBR's have been on the books since 1934, so it was only a matter of time before the dolts at ATF realized that people were running around and having a grand old time with...SBR's. There was no notice of the fact that there was no sudden upswing in gun violence as a result, just a realization that people were skirting the law of the land. I do feel bad for the NJ people that spent way too much money on their "other" firearms and will now have to register them, lose them in a boating accident, or relegate them to the back of the safe. It will be interesting to see where the Kamala Harris administration lands on this.
  11. Respectfully, you're the one who's been the most contentious in this thread. You're convinced you're "right", but when you get strong counter-arguments you get sensitive imply that the other guy is the brash one who needs the last word? It's fine if you want to drop out of an argument, but saying "I'm out' doesn't mean other people need to stop posting. Particularly when you jump right back in!!!
  12. Short answer IMO is "yes", it's reasonable to start on a .22. Lots and lots of people start shooting with .22 for the reasons you list. The lower recoil, less noise, and cheaper ammo fro .22 means that you are able to shoot more for less and focus on your technique and avoid building bad habits. When you move over from .22 to a larger caliber there is a learning curve to adjust to the recoil, sound, and grip of a new gun, but if you have sound fundamentals you should be good. With that said, there are also lots and lots of people who learned to shoot on 9mm (or other larger calibers). Some people only want one gun, or are given a gun that they'll be shooting, so they learn on what they have. Ultimately you get to be good by putting a lot of rounds downrange with strong basics/fundamentals. As with most things, taking a class from time to time will greatly improve the way you perform.
  13. So where's the line and who determines where the line is and when it goes into effect? Is it 100%, 200%, 300%? If you go online right now there are dozens of retailers selling at exponential increases over pre-COVID prices, so why is CTD treated differently. They're pricing at the top of the (current) market, but they don't control it.
  14. I took the Auto-Train to FL once and it was definitely more of a pain in the ass than simply driving. As the others have said, you have to wake up very early and make the 5+ hour drive to Lorton, VA in time to meet the loading schedule, then find something to do for a few hours until you depart. You then sit in a very uncomfortable train seat for 17+ hours with masked COVID people around you and the train slowly churns on. Sleep is challenging because of train noises/movement and the cramped, uncomfortable conditions. When you arrive you then wait for an eternity to get your car and drive 2 1/2+ hours to your final destination. Presuming you'll be spending at least a week in FL I'd say drive it. Wake up early like you would have for the auto-train and drive to SC and grab a hotel for the night. Wake up early the next morning and finish the rest of the trip. If you do the math it will probably be a wash from a time perspective. Yes, a bit more mileage on the vehicle and extra fuel costs, but the train isn't cheap.
  15. I wonder how much treasure and goods have been lost to the depths of the ocean over the last few centuries?
  16. Given the strange stuff happening with COVID I suspect that you'd be able to shoot at a range with the paperwork you have. You may need to "speak with the manager/owner" so they fully understand that you CAN'T get the DL update right now. Having the FID and matching license to rent guns and shoot at a range is a policy decision by the range owners, not law.
  17. Definitely sad to see it go. I didn't realize how old it was (completed in 1963). I would imagine maintenance in that tropical environment was a bit of a nightmare. Hurricanes, earthquakes, corrosion, etc, etc.
  18. I agree with both of you. I use the Android app shot-timer linked above and for my purposes it's great. I use it when I'm practicing from a port at the range, so it does everything I need it to. I think it would fall well short for competition or serious use while moving.
  19. Check Howell Gun Works. I got an Anderson AR10 lower on sale last year on Black Friday or Christmas. Not sure if they're doing that again this year.
  20. I always got the sense that it wasn't a huge operation, so with the craziness going on now with reloading supplies I'm not surprised that things with them are a little scattered. Their shop isn't too far from where I live so I would usually work out a time to drive over and pickup my order rather than waiting for shipping. Not sure if that's still an option.
  21. Which ones? Call it like you see it. Which tone and/or comments are the "borderline retarded" ones?
  22. Ugh. Looks like she died. https://ktla.com/news/woman-fatally-shot-man-wounded-when-handgun-accidentally-goes-off-at-rancho-cucamonga-indoor-range/
