NJ BPU Meets Today To Ban Your Gas Stoves

I thought this was worth a separate post. I'm pretty sure many of us cook with gas, and I think they're trying to sneak this in under our radar.

Wednesday: BPU plans “special meeting” to initiate N.J. gas stove ban (savejersey.com)

Nowhere beyond the author’s opinion does it mention gas stoves.

Hence my 'under the radar' assertion.

Be patient. Phil's in a race with Hochul to see who can be the biggest gas ass.

Decarbonization?

“Governor Murphy has said that ‘no one is coming for your gas stove’ even as his bureaucrats at the BPU were advancing plans to ‘decarbonize’ the state, which means eliminating natural gas and electrifying everything,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “Unless we have ironclad guarantees written into state law to protect energy choice and the right of New Jersey consumers to buy and use gas stoves, the governor’s words are meaningless.”

Senator Pennacchio urges action on bill to protect right to buy and use gas stoves - WRNJ Radio

The operative word above is 'meaningless'.

“Our bill would guarantee the right of New Jerseyans to use gas stoves and prevent state regulators from implementing any intrusive and expensive bans,” Pennacchio said. “If there are no bans or mandates coming down the pike, Governor Murphy should have no problem saying he would sign this bill into law. Unfortunately, I don’t expect we’ll hear that from him.”

they're not gonna come out and ban them. they're gonna play the same game with this that they're trying to play with autos. they'll set standards to the point of impossibility. this way, they can't be sold. so it's a defacto ban, without actually banning them. and they can lay the blame elsewhere of course.

They did this with EPA wood stoves, regulate the hell out of them.. drive up costs..

Although I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to outright ban new construction

Easier.  They’ll go after the municipal distribution systems.   Regulate the hell out of them so PSE&G or similar cannot distribute or deliver natural gas.

This is stupid. So much of NJ electricity comes from natural gas. All that banning gas appliances will do is power electric appliances with natural gas plus transmission losses. Unless they build more nuclear, that's pretty much going to be the deal.

Maybe it'd make some kind of sense if they redid solar subsidies and rules for net metering. Like if you are going to get subsidies and/or net metering you have to convert to all electrical appliances with the solar install. That would require them to get rid of the caps based on prior usage though.

You got that right. It's like climate change zealots believe electricity comes down from the God of Mother Earth with no attached cost.
