67gtonut 847 Posted October 28, 2009 Bud's has one in the Used section..... $500 shipped..... Is this basically an older brother to the 686? Opinions?
matt6669 71 Posted October 28, 2009 too much in my opinion but thats worth less than .02 cents You can realistically find a 585 or 686 in excellent condition at that price, and I would rather own one of those than a model
matt6669 71 Posted October 28, 2009 Just because I like you, and since I have NOOOOOO money left this week I'm passing up on these. Might be worth looking at. http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=144131238 http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=144182757

GRIZ 3,369 Posted October 29, 2009 500 is kind of steep unless the gun is minty as far as I'm concerned. A little more gets you a new GP100.
kenw 293 Posted October 29, 2009 That stainless Smith is a really nice gun.

matt6669 71 Posted October 29, 2009 That stainless Smith is a really nice gun. Please don't remind me, I've been staring at it for a week, going I need to find money for this. Then I realized their is no way I can swing this and a Ruger Mark III and since I already agreed to the ruger I can't back out boo
tbtrout 141 Posted October 29, 2009 Troy, check out the one in Totals thread. The shop is in Freehold and I have dealt with them before, good guys. I can even go and look it over if you need. You can not go wrong with a 686.
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted October 29, 2009 +1 on the 686 One of the best looking 357's out there, if not the best. Was also my first handgun!
John Fox 5 Posted October 29, 2009 The 19 is a K frame whereas the 686 or 586 is an L frame therefore stronger. The grips are the same.

rscalzo 3 Posted October 30, 2009 I've got both. i like the 686 much better than the 19/66 series except in the 2 1/2 inch barrel range. Then I do favor the 19/66. Parts are getting difficult to find for the 19 while the 696 is still a current model. Beyond that, whatever feels better to you, go for it. Most shoot little in the way of full magnums through their handguns so the stress on the smaller frame will probably not be a big factor.
