If you are building from the receiver up, a good punch set it always a help a few round flat and round tipped brass punches

are good. An action block is good for using in a vise, and the multi tool mentioned above. Hand guard removal tools can be helpful but are not necessary. If you going to build more then one then you may want to look into an armorers kit, made by colt or DPMS its a bit of an investment but comes with everything you need for complete lower and upper assembly.

Wow... that may be a bit much.

 

I just need enough to change the stock and remove the front sight/gas block. The punches might be useful when changing the trigger guard though.
