Z71 4 Posted November 5, 2009 hey guys, I was doing $30hr work for $17hr.never got paid for O.T, after dealing with 10 months of sarcasm and inuendoes ... I left my job...I approached the owner with this and he did little to nothing to talk me out of quiting,,,basicaly he said "well I'm dissappointed" thats it.. Today nov. 5th I get a letter (thinking its my pay check) telling me in order to keep my health coverage, that I should send him money plus handling fee. (due date was nov.1st) in the letter it states ;the plan I had was cancelled the 30th of oct. I quit the 29th of oct. this letter is like their last chance to hurl yet another slap at me.. :x is there any reason why I cant just pay the Ins. co. directly? and how long should I wait to inquire about my last pay check.. djg0770 481 Posted November 5, 2009 COBRA typically goes through the employer. Been there, done that. Had you waited to quit until Nov 2 you would have been covered until the end of the month.
Z71 4 Posted November 5, 2009 believe me ,quiting was a last resort..I had to leave before I lowered myself to thier level

Maksim 1,504 Posted November 5, 2009 In short, you can do cobra... but the rates are going to be higher. You can get 6 months of a discount on health coverage. there are other government programs avail if you have kids. Send me a pm, there are probly other options. I am glad something is right up my alley.
GoNRA 12 Posted November 5, 2009 I hate some employers, and they wonder why unions are so strong in this state.
Maksim 1,504 Posted November 5, 2009 lol. Um, you may think twice about it... but the average employer either pays, or contributes an average of $600 a month for an employees health insurance. Family coverage is easily up to $2,500 a month. If your boss pays for health coverage... make sure to say thank you.
Z71 4 Posted November 5, 2009 my employer told me awhile back he was paying 300 for me, in the letter he sent me he wants 450 from me to keep it up but the letter was sent 3 days after the due date.....so is he playing with me or what? a lousy 2 min. phone call would have been nice...... Maksim 1,504 Posted November 6, 2009 Plans could of change, rates could of gone up. Did you pitch in a part of the cost? I can tell you right now, $300 is very low for a plan. Every year, the rates go up. He might of change plans or what not. I can tell you this, I am paying $300 a month for single coverage and the average age of employees on my plan is 27.
