Smith & Wesson M&P AR15

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased a SW AR15 OR#811003 2-SW811003.jpg

Being my first AR, what nice goodies can I purchase for this. I know I am strongly leaning towards a sully stock.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

First thing I would recommend is some sort of sighting system. Scope or BUIS. Then you can make it as tacticool as you like. Most would put a vertical fore grip, maybe a light. Depends on what you plan on using it for.

Yea, I agree that a BUIS is a top priority. After that, optics depending on what your budget is for that kind of stuff. And, depending on its use, a mounted light (or two). VFG's are kind of pointless unless you're use to them or need them for their actual application. Oh, magazines.

George, you are my hero!

You got that Saiga in 7.62 and an AR? Dude, zombies will be droping like flies around you homey! But first you need a set of sights! BUIS is a start, then go crazy like you did with that Saiga.

Oh, I have to post a updated pic of the Saiga soon.....lol

I just couldn't pass up on this deal, and besides I wanted to build one figured this takes out most of the work, all I have to do is dress her up and make her purdy.

ok, checklist:

Troy BUIS. Have my eye on that rear battle sight model, and front NIIICE.

Optics (have one, will look into others, RDF, magnifier, etc)

Sully stock

Flashlight (have)

Lasersight (have)

Rails? There are soooo many out there and honestly, I don't know which one to choose.

Also looking at purchasing a larger charging handle, the one on it already seems a bit small.

Magpul AFG or a standard one(still deciding)..anything else?

Trying to get my list together for my next shopping spree lol.

And thanks guys, your input is greatly appreciated!

I actually saw this in the Catalog that I downloaded the other day. I thought...hmm..nice price..just needs sights.

I've got the Cash...I should just buy it. I was saving my money for a Colt or something equally as solid. No idea on the durability of these SW.

The responsibility comes down to you, pointing out whether or not its NJ compliant ultimately. Though, your FFL will (should) point it out as well.

The ORC model from SW comes NJ compliant (pinned stock, crowned barrel, 10 rd magazines, no bayo lug), so, that's an option.

As for SW rifles being solid, its fair to reserve judgment still, as SW hasn't been in this (AR's) business long enough yet. I've heard that they are using the same batches from other "quality" companies (depending on what your definition of quality may be)-- like CMT for example. For that price though, I wouldn't mind giving SW another go (I had an ORC, but traded away the upper-- still using the original SW lower though).

If anyone orders one, LMK I am thinking of it at that price as well.

LMK the steps needed to order that in NJ compliant.

Give them a call as I did. They are not going to ship the 30rd magazine, they will take down your info and send to your FFL dealer. Cannot place the order online, need to call.

I've narrowed down to some of these items on my checklist over the next few months:

Sights: Troy BUIS or Magpul (not sure on Magpul for the FS. Don't want it to melt, if it does at all)

Optics: Millet DMS 1-4x 25mm (or something similar in design)

Stock: Sully or Magpul PRS or UBR (still debating)

Flashlight (have)

Laser sight (have)

Handguard : Magpul MOE and the AFG

Sling: Magpul MS2

Charging handle: BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle MOD4 (med)

Grip: Magpul MAID

Trigger guard: Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard Aluminum

and some Pmags

(these guys make some nice stuff lol)

SW does have the "Magpul" edition, called the MP15 MOE: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/ ... rrorView_Y

The MSRP is way overpriced though considering you could get all of the Magpul stuff relatively cheap-- but hey, some people see a novelty in something like this (it would need aftermarket work to be NJ compliant).

Good luck

    • If you’re going to VA, buy 2 radios.  Program one for here and one for there.  If you guys are buying Baofeng radios do yourself a favor and get a tactical antenna for it,it’ll extend your reach.
    • Both our memories are a bit lacking. 3 bystanders were hit by NYPD bullets and 6 were hit by fragments at the Empire State Building shooting. The bullets later were determined to have passed through the bad guy as I said. He was not a big guy. The police fired 16 rds and 7 hit the bad guy.  Spray and pray?  I think not.  These officers fired until the threat was stopped and everyone is moving. Have you ever tried to hit a moving target whilst you're moving.  If you watch the video from where the police encounter him, the BG draws his gun from his bag, NYPD guys shoot, and the BG hit the ground is about 2 or 3 seconds.  The closest officer is maybe 12 feet or less.  The closest cover are those concrete flower pots.  If the officers chose to take cover before drawing the BG would have had a chance to shoot at least one officer. Know your target and beyond?  Agree 100%.  However, this by the Empire State Building at 9 am during the week.  There are bystanders and traffic in every direction.  The officers had a choice of doing what they did or letting the BG shoot them with his 1911 and shoot someone else. I think they made the right choice and the same one I would have made.  The officers exercised the best option in protecting themselves and the public. The first video is the police shooting.  The second is more detailed and gives you a lot of background information on the shooter. One thing this shows is if NYPD had to use fmj undoubtedly more bystanders would have been wounded perhaps killed.  NJ's hollowpoint law. only creates more danger to the public.
