Questions from an AR Newbie

About to pickup my first AR... aside from some 223/556 ammo (from where?) is anything else I need? Already have a bore snake for my .22 I can use...

Every place in the area that sells ammunition sells .223 and/or 5.56.

As for cleaning, a bore snake is a start. A proper cleaning kit, like Otis', wouldn't hurt either. I personally also use q-tips along with patches-- and also recommend having a brush (like the tooth brush looking thing).

Magazines? Proper iron sights? A sling?

What kind of AR would help too. Barrel length, home defense, plinking, super cool tactical zombie killer, or wall hanger?
